Clothing Care Tips

I’m no domestic goddess, friends. I can manage the basics of cleaning, cooking, and chores but will admit to paying others to do said services on occasion. (Well, not chores. I can’t seem to find anyone who’ll take out the garbage for me … even when offered a reasonable fee.)

But, over time, I’ve slowly gathered a small pool of Heloise-esque hints – all of which, unsurprisingly, relate to clothing and shoes – that I’d like to share. OK, OK, I exaggerate. Though perhaps I should keep a running list and eventually publish a book titled 1,001 Uses for Fashion Tape. I could make a fortune, people!

In the meantime, here are a handful of quick and easy uses for fashion tape to tide you over. Don’t go thinking that this invention exists for the sole purpose of preventing celebrity nipple slips. No indeed, double-sided fabric-friendly tape is incredibly versatile and almost infinitely useful, as my hyperbolic post title implies. I keep a little tin on my person at all times and another in my jewelry box at home. It comes in handy approximately once a week, I swear. I’ve seen it sold at Bed, Bath & Beyond on occasion, but I get mine from Amazon. And I buy in bulk. read more

I was about four years old when I settled upon my career choice: I was going to be a bellydancer. Many, many people were convinced that I must’ve meant BALLET dancer, but I assure you I did not. I had seen some footage of bellydancers on PBS and found myself completely mesmerized by their sensuous grace. And that sensuous grace was for me. I decided on the spot: That’s what I wanted. I wanted to be lithe and smiling and let my hips undulate to hypnotic drumbeats. I didn’t dance much on my own, or really gravitate toward physical activity, but it didn’t matter. My four-year-old mind fixated, and for a long time there was no arguing with me. read more
