Casual Outfit Roundup: Week of July 31

I opted for a sleeveless maxi on Saturday for errands and activities. Nice cool breezes for my pits and a nice, long skirt to disguise my unshaven legs. I did spend much of the day in a sports bra and shorts assembling Ikea furniture, but this was the “leaving the house” outfit.

Wore this with Fabienne’s Show Me Your Shorts project specifically in mind! I thrifted several pairs of shorts a few months back, and boy am I glad I did THAT. I generally prefer skirts, but when it’s as sticky-hot as it has been for much of this summer, I absolutely default to shorts. And I love the pairs I nabbed, especially this clean, plain olive pair.

I have to say that I LOVE your hair. It looks great on you.

I love your new hair! Suits you perfectly, and it looks so thick and healthy! I’ve recently worn shorts, too, even if I’m more into skirts and dresses. There’s just something so easy and carefree about shorts, and no thigh sweat! đŸ˜‰

” . . . a nice, long skirt to disguise my unshaven legs” – Sal, you have been reading my fashion diary. Nothing like a cool cotton maxi dress, and I love the bodice on yours.

I love seeing you in the maxi – definitely a different silhouette for you but works perfectly.

That pink necklace is gorgeous; I’d actually noticed it on Gilt before and it struck me as being perfectly your style. Guess I was right!

You look so chic in your maxi dress. Sal, I can’t believe you didn’t take the plunge earlier, the new hair is so flattering. You’re almost making me want to cut my own hair off again.

I also have to say I LOVE your haircut! And it inspired me to chop off my hair yesterday (I even used your picture of Audrey Tautou and you for the hair dresser!). My hair is also very frizzy and this summer it’s been SO HOT in the DC area I just put it in a messy pony tail. It’s something I’ve always wanted to do but never had the courage. It’s a bit shorter than I wanted (my fault, but I kept saying go shorter!) but so far it’s been great. Thanks for the inspiration and all the great posts. I’m no fashionista but love reading your blog.

    Keep up the great work!!

You’ll be pleased to hear (maybe) that you’ve inspired me into some platform sandals (purple, I’m quite pleased) and also some lycra shorty thingies to wear under skirts to stop chafing. They work well for walking about in hot weather…

i like the sassy new cut! it gives your style an edge. very nice. the long black dress is just lovely. it’s a great way to dress “up” but still be cool in hot weather.

The proportions on your first outfit are really neat! I’d be afraid that a tunic with capri length pants would end up looking stumpy but it looks great on you. I’ll have to try that when it cools off a bit.

Your new haircut goes with all of your outfits! Best accessory ever!

Love that tee from Nordstrom Rack. Sometimes I feel like it’s so hard to find a cool tee (not immature, not too tight or too loose, etc.).
