It’s possible that I forgot to apply one of my hair products today and, therefore, have hair like a fluffy newborn chick. But maybe not. Hard to say.

Pencil skirts are grand, but they can be a bit restricting. I seldom need to do split-leaps on regular working days but, ya know, big strides can come in handy. I run late to things. This little number is made of some sort of mesh-ponte hybrid that makes it feel like a tube of sweatshirt material, and I’m kinda loving it. Though I still kept my split-leaps to a minimum today.

I never thought I’d be drawn to tie-dyed clothing again. Ever. Years of rainbow-hued tees made from buckets of dye and well-placed rubber bands had scarred me. But in darker colors and black, the pattern seems so arty and funky right now. I’ll probably confine my tie-dyed garments to this vest and today’s skirt … but who knows? Maybe I’ll be hauling out the RIT and rubber bands on weekends to come.

Orrr you could try out bleach dyeing? All you need is stuff you can find around the house.

I have recently been drawn to tie-dye like garments more often. Not in the multi-color sense, but in the slightly edgier monochromes. I love your skirt, this outfit is awesome. I’m also surprised at how *cool* some Karen Kane pieces are. Also I really want a long red cardigan now. ~swoon~

I love the outfit, Sal! Though I am also a big fan of black and red.
A question about the skirt- it appears to be similar to a couple of my pencil-ish skirts that are also a bit stretchy. I can’t walk 10 steps in them without the whole thing starting to really annoyingly ride up, so I spend most of my time trying to pull it back down – which of course means that if there was anyone who didn’t notice the riding up, they sure know now that something is going on with the skirt. Do you (or anyone else) have similar issues, and if yes, how do you deal with it? Thanks in advance!

Mar, a lot of my skirts of all shapes migrate around a bit, so I’m definitely familiar with the problem. This one has a very wide exposed elastic waistband that helps keep it in place, and the skirt itself doesn’t seem to creep upward.

Generally, though, I find that skirts that fit snugly don’t migrate as much. For me, this means higher waisted models and lots of belting. But hiking a skirt down so it’s snug against your pelvis can work, too, as can tucking your shirt in to create a barrier and some friction. It’s that wiggle room that leads to creeping, I think.

I agree that most tie-dye stuff is ridiculous, but it can have a fun place in your heart. For my bridal shower, we dyed pajama shirts and cotton panties and it was a blast. Since no one really ever sees that stuff, you don’t have to worry about looking like you’re straight out of the 70’s, it’s a great group activity (it’s amazing what some people can do with some twisting and rubber bands) and it’s a built-in favor.

Oh I love this outfit, one of my favorites of yours. I headed out to Opitz for the first time last weekend in search in some new cardigans just like the one you’re sporting!

Love the skirt Sally! With such a bold pattern what tights would you wear? Just plain Black or Fishnet? I am always curious…

Lovely! Thanks for the link to the Target sweater – it comes in a bajillion colors, and it’s only $20. Love your skirt too – it’s a little retro but still completely up-to-date-cool.

I actually REALLY like this outfit on you. Love the skirt and black, white and red combination and I think this pencil skirt with long cardi look suits you really well.

It’s tie-dyed plaid – I love it! What a fab skirt. I thought your cardi was red, but hot pink is even better!

Love the outfit Sally, suits you well. I don’t like tie-dye, but that skirt is actually really cool and I could totally see it with a leather jacket and a pair of chunky booties, too! Have a great Tuesday! xxx

I really love tie dye, it’s just so fluid and natural. You just have to use the right colours, on the right garment, and not go overboard hah.
