I’m late to the pattern mixing party, I know. Still playing around with this technique, but definitely intrigued. Especially because it’s so far from what I’ve known traditionally: Ten years ago doing stripes and florals would’ve been blasphemy. Some still think it is, but I can safely say that my eye has adjusted.

And although I’m not wild about being stuck with indoor shots until the temperature climbs somewhere above 30 degrees – which could be, ya know, April – it’s nice to have company while I work.

    Kitty! <3

And I think those stripes with the floral work. From a distance the stripes just kinda blend into a grey color, which allows the floral to pop against it. 🙂

    Kitty !!

Oh, and the outfit is great too. The stripe floral combo is nicely done. The two patterns play off each other well, and don’t create eye-chaos.

Does the cardigan have orange in it that matches the scarf? I’m always afraid to put orange and pink together.

I am intrigued by the stripes/floral combo. I remember reading, somewhere, once, that stripes become almost a single neutral colour, especially from a distance, and that certainly is the case in your photos. So the combo really does allow the floral print to ‘pop’. Keep up the inspirations!

Super love, love this combo. AND I love the way you styled your hair – I can’t tell if it’s cut or just different, but it’s CUTE!

I do love stripes + floral – especially the black/white or navy/white stripes + a colorful floral pattern.

I love your hair! It was one of the first things I noticed – it looks beautiful.

p.s. your cat looks just like my cat Buck! so pretty.

I love the last photo!!! So adorable!! And the floral cardigan is really pretty, too 🙂

OMG, I tried pattern mixing for the first time yesterday also. I was a bit nervous so I toned it down by pairing pinstripe with polka dots instead of something more bold. Your look is far more bolder though and I love it!!! I am inspired to try something similar when I go to NYC this weekend. BTW, I love that kitty decided to get his model on! I am with C. I love the hair. I am missing my short cut. )-:

ha, cute! My own fuzzy lumpkins is crashed out on a pile of graded homeworks, mashing them up (I always worry that one day I’ll have a student who is allergic to cats…) I was going to ask about the hair, too – you are looking super coiffed! It’s so smooth – which is surprising, given the curls I know you have. Do you find that when you cut it this short it lays flat like this, or do you have to use some kind of straightener to keep it tamed? Either way, c’est tres jolie!

    • Sal

It takes a bit of product and the occasional flatiron touch-up, but it mostly sits flat on its own!

I don’t think I could be as dedicated as you (heck, I didn’t even shower today!), but wow, it looks really amazing!

I love the combination of the stripes and floral…We also had a cat like that once.. Nice!

I may be a little late to comment on this, but didn’t have a chance to last night. I *loved* the stripes and floral combo and decided that I must have a striped dress. I trawled e-bay & e-bayuk with absolutely no luck–well, not much 😉 I gave up on a striped dress and then, later last evening, ended up at New Look where they had a perfect striped “skater” dress in my size! I was inordinately happy. I can’t wait to do my own stripes & floral when my dress comes. Thanks for the inspiration.

Totally off topic – but I love the inside photos because they give me a chance to drool all over the beautiful (original?) wood baseboards and door and window trim in your house. So jealous.

And I love the outfit too of course! I’m definitely timid about pattern mixing, but I’m thinking a subtle stripe plus an abstract floral might be a good way to ease into it. I’ve never commented before, but I’ve been reading for a while. Figures it takes baseboards to pull me out of the woodwork. 😉

Although Sal is wise to keep street signage out of her outdoor photos, I would put money that she lives in (one of many) charming South Minneapolis neighborhoods!? Which are a lot more affordable lately … lots of woodwork and charm.

This is a great example of brave pattern-mixing. I love it! Also, species-mixing. Kitty-human interaction is always inspiring.

I don’t usually comment on the Daily Outfit posts, but I feel the need to say that that first photo is beautiful! I love how the light shines in & you just look so peaceful. Oh, and the outfit is great, too!
