I’ve been feeling a bit low lately, friends, and somewhat out-of-sorts. So instead of trying to force creativity, I’m starting to gravitate toward simple outfits. Can’t get much simpler than a dress and boots … but it works. (I’ll admit to throwing on a black pashmina at the office. Turns out this neckline is a bit deep for work.)
I am leading a discussion about style and body image tonight at Flex Appeal (you’re all welcome to join!) and in thinking about what to wear today, I remembered something Katie told me: She said, “People always tell me I look so polished and pulled-together in a dress. And I think, of course I do. It’s a DRESS! It’s polished and pulled-together all on its own.”
Too right.

That dress is FANTASTIC!!! Beautifully shaped, nice color for you. It really doesn’t need much embellishment.
I LOVE this outfit. You look fantastic, polished, beautiful. I’m sorry you’re feeling low. At least you look like a million.
You look very chic. This also nips in the waist!
I have this very dress – and shortened it, as well! Great minds think alike. 🙂
You’re a beautiful lass, Sal, and I appreciate this site, which reawakened my love of fashion. I’m sorry you’re feeling the blues. That sucks!
The print on that dress is fabulous. And the shape flatters you. Hope you get out of your low rut 🙂
Looking gorgeous! I love the silver necklace and how the subtle-ish pattern has peeks of red bringing out your hair and lipstick.
That’s a gorgeous dress. Your friend is right – it’s the easiest way to look pulled together!
Total cuteness! Love the muted leopard pattern with those gorgeous boots. Thanks so much for the links. (I think)
I’ve sorry to hear that you are feeling down. I read your blog every day and enjoy it immensely. I hope you are feeling better soon.
Beautiful styling in front, so elegant! Best wishes for outfit muses to perk you up! (sice you’re a muse for the rest of us)

I rarely wore dresses til i started blogging and realized they are so much more versatile than i previously thought!
I love the dress over dress or dress over skirt look now!

I’m also feeling down lately – must be the friggin’ weather! Hope you feel better, because you look smashing! Love the leopard!
Here’s hoping the out-of-sortnesss blows over very soon!
No need for an extra s up there really….;)
I totally understand the need/desire to wear simple outfits on days when you’re not feeling like yourself. Sometimes doing any more is just too much effort. I love this outfit – it’s gorgeous in its simplicity and doesn’t need any embellishment! I hope you’re back to feeling better soon.
Sal, that is a LOVELY dress on you! Absolutely stunning!
You look absolutely stunning, darling. Hope you feel better soon.
Thanks for all the well wishes, my dears. You’re the best.
I tell myself on low days that maybe if I look good, I’ll feel good – and some days I end up believing it. 🙂 You look so polished and poised in your pretty dress! I hope this low time passes soon.
The discussion last night was great! Thank you so much!
Sometimes you need those go-to combinations. If it’s not broke – don’t fix it. You look really lovely, Sal.
Preach it! I love dresses.
Oh my, look at all that snow still.
I totally love this dress! You look fab. And I hear ya on feeling low lately too. I blame the craptacular weather and the cold. Your internet peeps love ya, and the blog continues to rock out! Hope you are feeling better soon 🙂
