Already Pretty Daily Outfit 5/24/11 featuring black shirt dress

Black shirt dress, Land’s End (no longer available) – similar

Yellow pumps, Dr. Scholl’s (no longer available) – similar shape and colormore Dr. Scholl’s
Bracelet, self-made – similar

Earrings, boutique in SF – similar

I didn’t even mean to illustrate my own point today, I swear! But when I pulled on my red sheath dress and sunshine yellow cardigan with these shoes and this scarf, it just didn’t work. It wasn’t coolness, specifically, that I was going for and the problems with the original outfit iteration had to do with how the items fit and worked together … yet I DID end up reaching for my black shirt dress, knowing it would just work. And I do feel cooler than I would’ve pushing the color envelope today.

This month has been insanely busy and stressful, but things have finally calmed down. I am so tired I feel like I could sleep for a solid week and oh, how my cats would love to use me as a sofa for seven straight days. I once heard a comedian say that cats view humans as furniture with a circulatory system, and my cats definitely subscribe to that philosophy.

I’m fairly sure that my cats have far more complex (and needy) attitudes toward me than they do towards the sofa. πŸ™‚

I like this black dress, it seems very versatile. I keep eyeballing the 50s-style shirtdresses at J. Peterman that have a similar shape.

I’m not just furniture to the cats, I’m also a source of food. That scarf belt really brightens up the outfit!

    those shoes are amazing!

i love to wear color and already know that i’m not that cool πŸ˜‰

I love those shoes! This outfit is a perfect illustration of why black is cool. The scarf is perfectly matched here.

I agree with other commenters – I’m also a source of food and pettings to cats. My mom’s cat will literally bully me if I don’t feed him when it’s dinner time.

Gorgeous! Love those yellow shoes. And you know what? ‘Cool’ has an element of stand-offishness; what you have is ever so much better – you have joie de vivre and it shows in what you wear and all the other ways you express yourself.

I may just be in love with those shoes!!!!

I have a thing for yellow shoes πŸ™‚

I am instantly drawn to the bright pops of color! I love this nod to the 50’s housewife look! It’s fun and summery and looks great on you! And I think I covet your scarf a little too

Yay! Yes, you look cool while still pushing the color envelope just a tad! πŸ˜€

Totally digging the yellow/red/black combos you keep coming up with- it’s so fun and fresh! It’s a better definition of cool, anyway.

Sal, you do bright colors so well. Those yellow shoes are divine, woman. And after reading over your post from earlier today, you’re making me realize that it’s summer and all my jewel toned clothing deserve attention πŸ™‚

Actually I think you are demonstarting a very bold use of color here. Bright red, yellow and orange all together are hardly “safe” or “easey”, and you look vibrant as usual. I would say that the black is actually just a backdrop for all the rest of the pretty colors going on there.

It’s so weird to see your post today, because I wore a very similar outfit, only in different colors yesterday (red shirtdress, teal shoes, patterned belt). Yours is excellent, and now I *really* want a black shirtdress!

  13. Carmen

You always look so fab in a shirt dress. You wear them well! You look straight outta Donna Reed… with better shoes πŸ™‚

Okay, so I will be honest, this is what went through my head the moment I saw your photo… “Eee! That scarf! Those shoes! Eeee!” and imagine a little cartoony figure waving her hands excitedly, and that’s how much I like this outfit. Although now I really want to see the red dress-yellow cardi version too.
