In case you’d like to review how I’m feeling about the weather, click here. Otherwise, let’s move on.

I got a very subtle haircut over the weekend and my stylist set me up with some new products. They’re light and non-crunchy and smell fabulous and are food-grade so I can munch on them if I ever get THAT hungry. I think I’m gonna love them, but I’m still figuring out how much to apply each morning. You’re familiar with that game, right? The first day you glob on too much, second day too little, takes about a week to find the perfect balance. Today is the second day so I’m a wee bit fluffy. Products are this and this, if you’re curious. And for those prices they’d better prove miraculous once I get the balance right!

P.S. Do you know how nice it is to have a husband who – in the midst of saying goodbye to you in the morning – says, “I like your pretty dress”? I don’t mean to gloat, but oh wait yes I do.

Have you tried the Deva hair care line? My mom has very curly hair, like yours, that tends to be really frizzy. Her hair-stylist told her to use Deva no-poo shampoo and it really worked wonders. I was just curious if you’ve tried it and what you thought!

    • Sal

I have and didn’t really like them. I used the No Poo and One Condition for months and my hair looked lank and greasy the whole time. Might’ve been in combination with the styling products I was using, but I prefer WEN’s cleansing conditioners.

Ooh jealous! I have a very good husband, but he’s not good at compliments when I’m dressed up. His compliments seem to be on an entirely random basis, which is a bit disheartening.

    Great dress too!

I was wondering if you have ever used argan oil on your hair? I have hair that seems similar to yours (thick, curly) and was thinking about trying it out.

    • Sal

Actually, my stylist was saying that many of his clients use argan oil and when they come in he has to practically scrape it off their hair. I know lots of women swear by it, but that scared me off. These products are supposed to sink into the hair and moisturize without leaving buildup, and I REALLY hope they do. Will report back!

This: “I don’t mean to gloat, but oh wait yes I do” made me laugh right out loud. Husband Mike sounds pretty darn awesome.

Gloat away! I love when my honey recognizes the effort I put into getting dressed. I would’ve said so too cause this dress is so pretty and it has pockets! Score!

Please give us a review in a week or two of the Oribe hair products. I had a too-much-product in my hair day today, so tomorrow will have to be too-little. You look so pretty and that dress is divine. I have a gloat-able husband too, he is a good man.

Love the dress. My husband is also handy with a compliment just when I need one. I have curly/wavy hair and use Ouidad products. Their climate control heat and humidity gel is keeping my curls pretty and not frizzy. The only MN salon I am aware of that offers the Ouidad haircut method (and sells the products) is Ovations in Excelsior. I have heard good things about Deva as well, but I am sold on Ouidad. Sephora also sells Ouidad. Expensive, but seems cheaper than the Oribe.

That dress is beautiful. Your husband sounds amazing – the best compliments are always the unexpected ones 🙂

Love this dress on you! And I’ve used the argan oil on my thick curly hair and love it. It will be interesting to see how you feel about the products. Please do a review once you feel comfortable with them.

What a fabulous dress! And shoes!! I still haven’t figured a good hair routine, I’ve kind of given up. I just let my hair do whatever it wants.

    You always look so cute!

You might want to check out the Beauty Brains blog–they are cosmetics chemists and they explain what the useful stuff in a product is and what’s just marketing filler and how to save a lot of money by buying only effective ingredients, etc. Apparently there are only so many effective ingredients and they are not all that expensive…

    I learned a lot…..

An absolute dunce when it comes to hare maintenanace products 😉
The dress is a cutie, it has a vintage feel to it.

Aw, how sweet! Good husbands are the bomb. I just wish there were more of them out there; I have friends that could use one. =P

I like your pretty dress too! What kills me about this weather is that while it’s 90 outside, my office is air-conditioned down to about 70 and I’m freezing in my little dresses. I put on a sweater but my FEET are cold and my HANDS are cold. I just don’t think we’re meant to experience such different temperatures in the course of one day. I don’t want to swelter any more than anybody else, but I do want to be a LITTLE warm.

  15. Emily

SMART man, that husband of yours!! If only he could give my boyfriend tips on how to give a compliment (or – if only I could get him to read your post about complimenting properly!). I hear a lot of “Your hair looks friggin HOT straight.” Wait… I’m naturally curly. Does that mean I look like crap with my curls? Sigh…

I like your pretty dress, too. It’s a nice fabric, a nice cut, perfect shape… it’s just all around perfect.

  16. Sophie

Men who give sincere compliments are the best, aren’t they? Sometimes I notice my boyfriend just sitting there staring at me. If I ask him if he needs or wants something, he says, “No. I’m just looking at you, because you’re so beautiful.” Makes my day every time.

  17. LinB

Cherish that lovely husband of yours — he seems to be a keeper. Back in the dear old days when I still had a waist, I made a shirtwaist dress with a full skirt, in a beautiful wall-paper print of black, deep violet, magenta, dark teal and navy. Whenever I wore it, non-creepy men of all ages would approach me — on the sidewalk, among the grocery shelves, in line at the bank — to compliment me, and to say that they wished their wife/girlfriend would dress like that. There’s something about a fitted bodice and full skirt that REALLY appeals to nice men.

  18. marisa

ooh, i love this dress so much! good thing it’s no longer available or i’d have to buy it.

  19. Linda

We are fitted bodice/full skirt/curly hair TWINS today. I also eagerly await the product reviews, but in all honesty, I am not going to pay that price.

  20. Stacy

That dress looks great on you! What a wonderful hubby you have, too. I rarely get compliments on the way out the door…so yes, I am jealous! 🙂

  21. ks

A tip for Twin Cities Oribe users: this product line is carried by Cole’s Salons (4 or 5 of them in the south metro) and every October the run a “buy one, get a second one for 50% off” promotion on all their hair/makeup products (they also sell Aveda). A great time to stock up!

  22. ilegirl

That IS a pretty dress. And yes, isn’t it nice to have a man in your life who is secure enough with his masculinity to appreciate your femininity? Yay!

  23. Sarah

Ooh this is my favourite silhouette – for both of us, Sal! You look super summery and gorgeous.

I’m really impressed together with your writing skills as smartly as with the format on your weblog. Is this a paid topic or did you modify it your self? Anyway keep up the nice quality writing, it is uncommon to look a nice blog like this one nowadays..
