Date Night

Zara floral jacket, Chanel bag

Le Monsieur and I try to arrange an evening out on our own every week or two. Usually our venue is casual, but once in a while we take it up a notch, and step out for a symphony concert or dinner at a nice restaurant. I’ve worn this Zara jacket before with jeans, but wanted to try it as part of a dressier ensemble. I kept all of the other pieces simple and let the jacket take center stage.

It’s a bit of a change for me to wear nude shoes with darker pants (and it’s breaking yet another of the Fashion Rules I was raised with, “shoes should never be a lighter color than your pants”), but black heels felt too dark, and blue too matchy. I love these shoes; they are very comfortable and even if they aren’t a perfect match for my skin tone are a go-with-everything neutral.

Doing a High-Low mix here…necklaces are Chanel and J.Crew, but I think they work together nicely.

I love this outfit. Understated yet sparkles. Love the nude shoes. I haven’t bought any nude shoes yet but thinking they’ll get a lot of use when I do.

Lovely outfit, and the shoes seal the deal. They keep it fresh and unexpected. Love the accessories too. Very inspiring–thanks.

I love that look. Black as the backdrop for the bold jacket. Black really does speak to me. Splashes of colour are just meant to be used as you have worn them so artfully. Mixing high and low accessories is a great idea I might steal that one!
I do not own any light shoes so I am not at liberty to comment but I like them on you.

I too have always worn a dark shoe, having been told that dark haired women should never wear light colored shoes unless they are in a wedding gown or on the tennis court. 😉 That said, I tried the nude shoes a couple of years ago, and was pleasantly surprised. To my eye, it lightens a summer outfit. Your outfit looks very nice.

Ah, I really like that jacket- and it works well for a dressy evening out. The nude shoe makes a classic look stay fresh and contemporary looking, not to mention adding a few inches to your stems. Your legs look longer!

The rich blue of your jacket is very flattering and I could also see wearing it with an all white ensemble. We have very few opportunities to dress up in these parts. However, I buck the uber casual local trend and dress a little better for our usual jaunts to dinner or Broadway Theater League. I can remember when these events were occasion to dress quite chicly. Sadly, those days are gone.

I cannot get past the “shoes shouldn’t be lighter than the pants” thing. I see it on others, I like it, I try it on, but I cannot do it. The outfit looks great on you, by the way.

I never heard about that rule and certainly don’t follow it.
Nude shoes always work, no matter if you are wearing a light floral dress or a black pencil skirt. It is all about the overall look and accessories.

I love your look, it is very chic!

The light shoes are working with your lighter hair, the term is bookending and it works!

I must say I adore your sense of style. And that Chanel necklace – am coveting profusely. 🙂

I like the shoes – too high for me as am already very tall – and on you, they look great and do make the outfit lighter.

Am really enjoying your blog – and love that you show where we might look for each item – also really love the travel wardrobes.

I used to spend more time reading A Une Femme – and then stumbled on you in error and have been enjoying my time here ever since!
