Dressed for: A Comeback

Already Pretty outfit featuring fox sweater, orange full skirt, heather brown tights, chocolate brown boots

Sweater – Old Navy (no longer available) – a few on eBaysimilar
Skirt – Banana Republic (no longer available) – almost identical, but different fabric
Tights – SPANX High-waisted Tight-End Tights
Boots, Jessica Simpson Angie – a few pairs on eBay
Earrings – repurposed vintage – similar

In my mind, this orange skirt is my favorite skirt. I bought it many years ago but recently discovered that Banana Republic is selling its near twin RIGHT NOW. In looking back over my outfit posts, I discovered my “favorite” skirt hadn’t been worn in over a year. Or, anyway, hadn’t been photographed and posted in over a year. Instead of demoting the skirt, I’m going to consider this outfit its triumphant comeback.

Do you have wardrobe favorites that get worn infrequently? Or are your faves the items that get the most wear?

Love the foxy sweater and orange skirt! I consider all my clothes my favorites, but I do have a tendency to ‘save’ my top favs, meaning they don’t get worn as much.

I just love this sweater, I am always nervous about wearing anything with an animal , heart ,etc…because I am not in my 20’s and wonder if it’s just too young for me plus I am petite, but now I think I am jut being silly lol It really looks cute and age appropriate 🙂

I snagged the owl version of that sweater about a month ago. Love it! Also love your outfit.

I’m trying to get better about this. I save my favorite stuff so either it will be clean when a “good” reason to wear it comes about, or because I don’t want to wear it out. Then it goes out of fashion or I change sizes. I need to stop doing this!

I love that outfit. The fox sweater and that skirt are perfect together. Of course, I tend to live in Matchy-Matchytown, and I heard you were the mayor, so, heh.

Also, how do you find so many great skirts with pockets? I am jealous.

A possibly weird take on infrequently-worn favorites:

I have several things that I absolutely love but I don’t wear very often. Why? When I wear them, people often notice and compliment me. That should make me want to wear them more, right? In reality, it makes me self-conscious, and something in my head tells me that if I wear those things too often, people will stop complimenting and start whispering, “She always wears that (xyz)! Doesn’t she have any other clothes?”

It kind of sucks, because more than once I’ve decided against buying something especially groovetastic, because I think to myself, “I’ll only be able to wear it once or twice a year.” (e.g. fierce tiger-print pencil skirt, amazing embroidered silky skirt that I’ve had 15+ years, adorable vintage pink and and white polka-dot Lucy Ricardo dress, the list goes on…)

It’s also very stupid, because I don’t apply the same standard to other people. If I see someone in a fabulous outfit one week, then see it on them again a week later, all I think of is how fabulous they look… not “didn’t she just wear that?” Nor do I think apply it to the stuff I wear on a regular basis. Red cardigan this Tuesday, red cardigan next Tuesday, no problem. But floral swing dress in May? No more floral swing dress until July! Stupid.

Anyone else find themselves doing this? Or is it just me being weird and self-absorbed?

I don’t share your dilemma but have an office mate who, I presume, has both lovely clothes and a small wardrobe (certainly smaller than the mess spilling out of mine!) and I simply think: wow, that is a fantastic dress and I think so any time she wears it (or any other wonderful item) and I NEVER think “doesn’t she have anything else to wear?” This is true whether it is a very distinctive item or a simple classic. If I see someone wear something often, I presume they really like it! So I say, go ahead and wear your lovelies!

Old Navy has a new cute Fox sweater that I was very excited to pick up this week. I am going to try to create my own version of this outfit soon.
