I consider black/multicolor prints to be well nigh priceless. Many of my style consult clients have wardrobes loaded with black garments, and incorporating a few pieces that feature black backgrounds with multicolored prints allows these gals to bring some bright, vibrant colors into their outfits. Intentionally! So, in this case, the purple in the print makes the purple boots a natural choice.

Got any black/multi prints in your own wardrobe? Do they serve as bridging pieces for your outfits?

My favorite part of this look is the purple boots. I do keep a lot of black based prints around. It makes color a little less intimidating and bridges the gap of my super-saturated stuff and my grey/black/red stuff.

Besides your lesson on prints, thanks for showing (again!) a cardigan that isn’t in any danger of being dowdy. This particular print is so flattering … I’m happy to be reminded what dark backgrounded prints can do.

What a striking outfit on you — I love the print and the purple boots!

I have a black sweater with hot pink and some purple blossoms (med. size) that I like to wear with a hot pink T-shirt and/or scarf. But my all time favorite black print is anything with pink or red roses. The new Talbots catalog came today, and they have several versions of this print on several pieces of clothing, including pants, a skirt, and a sheath dress. Now, to wait for a very good sale…

that’s it! I’m going to get that next month! the second dress I’ve breathlessly clicked over to and ordered without hestitation (the knit lime green one you had a few weeks ago was the first – though I must admit my cardigan wardrobe is slightly too limited right now to make that my most transcendently successful dress.) anyway, absolutely on the black print now that I htink about it. I had a knit garden-flowers printed top from anthro once upon a time and can’t tell you how many times that was my go-to for successful dressing when I needed it!

I love this outfit! Cool and casual, with a fashionable bird print- and those boots! I love everything about this!
