Dressed for: Summer Boots

Already Pretty outfit featuring brown polka dot dress, Frye Carmen Woven boots, denim jacket, Ellington hobo

Denim jacket – Gap (no longer available) – similar
Dress – Boden
Belt – from a pair of shorts – similar
Boots – Frye Carmen Woven
Bag – Sadie courtesy Ellington
Earrings – Corset
Bracelet – thrifted – similar look

I’ve long advocated for wearing boots in summer , and generally feel that three styles work best for warm weather wear: Short boots, light-colored boots, and Western-influenced styles. These Frye Carmen Wovens have been worn dozens of times since I snagged them in the spring, and hit ALL THREE MARKS. They are so comfy that I actually sigh every time I slip them on, and I fully intend to wear them year-round. Bonus: They work beautifully with my Boden-does-the-“Pretty-Woman”-polo-scene dress. Unintentional, but happy-making.

love those boots! A question about them: how is the sizing? I have found
that with slip on Frye’s I often cannot get them on due to my high
instep. Do you think that will be a problem with these lower ones?

    • Sally McGraw

Actually, it might be an issue, labontegami … I don’t have a high instep and although these are wonderfully comfy once on, I sometimes have to do some fancy maneuvering to get into them. The boot shaft is loose and soft, but the vamp is stiff. Sorry!

Gap denim jackets are the best & yours is lovely. I am still kicking myself for giving up a boxier vintage version a few years ago. GAH!

That’s a great look! I love wearing jean jackets with dresses. I also love those boots! I’m glad they are sold out of my size on 6pm.com! 🙂

Oh, those boots are wonderful! I love the woven leather!

I love boots and those ones are prefect for that dress! I don’t think I’ve ever met any Frye boots I didn’t love, though I hear that sadly they are not actually American made anymore.

This outfit head to toe is a huge YES for me. Thanks for sharing it. Wanted to ask if you saw my Q re: ordering the Shakti coral dress. I’m 5’4″ and I want it to fit like yours does–just above the knee. What length should I order, since the dress description is “below the knee”? Many thanks.

    • Sally McGraw

Thank you, lovely Claire! And I’m actually just now working on a post with some related tips – since that eShakti dress has a fairly full skirt, ordering “at the knee” will probably get you a slightly above-the-knee fit. The pleats add volume so real length and perceived length have a bit of a discrepancy. Hope that helps!

      • Claire

Thank you! I would have never thought of “real length” and “perceived length.” Looking forward to that post. Now off to buy the eShakti dress.
