I feel like most discussions of the “no white pants/shoes after Labor Day” style rule are pretty tongue-in-cheek. At this point, folks seem pretty comfortable with the idea that this guideline is flouted as often – or perhaps even more often – than it is followed. And yet I cannot resist telling you that although I am posting this outfit today, I actually wore it last week. Before Labor Day. Because I’m a goody-two-shoes like that.

I like to see your different outfits but I have to be honest, this one looks so cheap. Sorry…

SAL!!! This is totally off topic of this post, but I just HAD to tell you. Since you first started posting about Karen Kane skinny jeans, I have been thinking about them. Okay, obsessing. But being a nonprofit worker, I kept convincing myself to buy cheap jeans from ON, etc. But in this past Nordies sale, I finally sucked it up and bought a pair of the pull-on dark rinse skinnies and OH MY GODDESS!!! They are the most amazing thing EVER. they make me look 10 lbs lighter and yet, with the elastic waistband, they are so insanely comfortable!! I don’t know why I waited so long, and I will never, ever, wait to follow your advice again, I promise. ;o)

Zora, YAY! So glad you took the plunge and that you love those jeans as much as I do. They truly are the best I’ve found. Thank you for letting me know!

I really love the tone-on-tone, and how to subdues the large necklace into something more casual while remaining a statement piece (a lesson you’ve written about elsewhere). It is a great color on you, and I wouldn’t have thought to use that yellowy leather with it, which here probably looks more orange in the presence of that aqua (and therefore a complementary color scheme). Smart and chic.

I like looking at your different outfits and hearing about how you choose to blend and mix different colors and silhouettes too. But this outfit seems ill-fitting. It seems like it’s pulling at certain places and not quite right. The pants in particular seem strange … like the rise is too long (is that the right word?) because the crotch is falling below where it’s supposed to (if that makes sense). Or maybe it’s just me.

Sal, this outfit looks clean neat and fresh yet feminine and young. I love the pants and the mint green is a hot colour for our Aussie spring/summer here right now. You look fab. Love your work. I am learning better self acceptance all the time through beautiful amazing women like yourself. I try to pass that on to my own clients and other women I come into contact with as well – kind of ‘pay it forward’. Thanks for being an inspiration. xxxx
