Just a few more snowy outfits … hang in there. Of course, by the time I use them all up it might have snowed again.

My favorite and most-used outfit-building cheat is to grab a multi-colored scarf and pull out a few colors from its pattern. Here, that just meant burgundy and black, but the scarf unifies those two beautifully and adds a bit more color overall. This is a great practice for color pairing inspiration, too: Look at an existing pattern to see colors that a professional designer has grouped, and then re-create the grouping with your own garments!

Amen! This is really great advice. I’m not quite as far down the “bad ass” spectrum as you, but I do wear a lot of grey and black. But I love colorful scarves and using them for inspiration helps a little bit of color sneak back into my wardrobe, which I think is good. Window-shopping (and buying, let’s be honest) scarves has also helped me identify which accent colors I truly love – deep teal, olive, and purple/burgundy being faves.
