Flight of Fashion

Even before I became involved with the LOTT program, I was passionate about women’s leadership. Providing women with the tools they need to move into positions of power and leadership is something I’ve worked toward for many years, and I’ve done my best to support programs that share those goals.

Which is why I was absolutely thrilled to learn about Flight of Fashion, the signature event of a group called Women Investing in the Next Generation’s (WINGS). Several hundred WINGS members and guests will gather at the Radisson Blu for a night of food, fun and fashion. I mean, seriously, what could be better?

WINGS is a United Way giving community devoted to investing in women by giving them the tools they need to succeed personally and professionally. In the nine county regions that my local Untied Way serves, more than 173,000 women are living in poverty, and poverty rates in female-headed households are typically three to four times higher than for the overall population. WINGS members are committed to investing in career and job skills, training, and scholarships to help women increase their earnings and provide additional stability for their families. Since 2008, WINGs has raised over $460,000 for programs that serve women and their families.

So, basically, if you sink $50 into a ticket to this event – which includes a swanky cocktail hour, glamorous fashion show, and opportunities to meet and network with other women dedicated to moving more women into leadership positions – you’ll be putting that money in the hands of WINGS, who will pass it along to local agencies where women gain the essential job skills that will form a solid bridge to move from poverty to prosperity. Agencies like Sisterhood of the Traveling Scarf, a next-to-new clothing store where East African immigrant girls and young women learn entrepreneurial business skills.

Sound amazing? Thought so. The event is on April 11 from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at the Radisson Blu in Edina, and I will absolutely be there. Care to join me and a couple hundred other amazing women for a night of leadership and fashion? You can get more info on the event and reserve your tickets right here. Hope to see you there!
