Gracey Wears: Mustard

Yellow often gets a bad rap and mustard yellow is the most maligned of the yellows.  Everyone yells that they can’t wear it, that they feel like a hot dog, that it’s doing horrible things to their complexion and that it’s the worst.  Well, I’m here to tell you that I disagree.  I love yellow and I’m particularly fond of mustard yellow.

I think it’s lovely.  It’s both bright and warm, it’s cheery and it plays well with other colors.  Such as the colors in this skirt:

There is no mustard in the pattern on this skirt.  There is olive and blue and gray and bits of citron and red, but there is no mustard.  And yet, my mustard cardigan stepped up to the challenge of having nothing to match in this skirt and decided to instead “go” with this skirt.  And I think it did so brilliantly:

Great job, Dear Mustard Cardigan.  I love you and will wear you with everything, even if no one else will.

What about you, Reader Friends?  Are you pro- or anti-mustard?

You look gorgeous here! I actually love mustard yellow too. It really does coordinate well with other non-yellow colors. I just recently tried a top with acid yellow and love it.

I too am a lover of mustard. I honestly have no idea if it looks terrible with my complexion or not, and nor do I really care. As you said, it plays so well with so many other colors, many of which I regularly wear and that do look good on me, that I actively seek out fabrics that are or contain mustard in their prints.

I don’t have any mustard colored clothing myself….but you look great in it!

Pro-mustard! It looks really good on my skin tone. Brighter, more neon yellows make me look sick.

Very pro-mustard. It’s the only shade of yellow that looks good on me.

    Gracie looks: amazing!
I love mustard actually, or perhaps slightly more in the direction of ochre. I am one who yells about it not really going with my skin, but I just wear it away from my face or have another colour along with it near my face. I love it with navy and deep plum.

Huh, didn’t know people hated on Mustard. I think it is one of the easiest shades of yellow to wear. And much like a metallic I think it ‘goes’ with so much more than you’d think.

Gracey, you look fabulous as usual!
I’m definitely a fan of mustard and acid yellow, although paler yellows make me look like something that spent too long sitting under a mossy rock.
I usually wear mustard or acid as an accessory–shoes or handbag–and particularly like how they look with gray or olive green

My mustard cardigan is my most favorite, most versatile cardigan in my wardrobe. A friend of mine gave it to me as a gift because she thought it was something that I would never pick out for myself, but would work really well with my clothes. Turns out, she was right!

I am actually one of those that am not that fond of mustard a color to wear. Unfortunately I am a redhead and have avoided many shades of yellow for most of my life. Now that my coloring is changing a bit I have been wearing yellow the last several years however it needs to be a very clear crisp lemon yellow that is not on the way to mustard at all. When I wear even try on something mustard colored I usually have someone walk by and ask if I am feeling ok as it immediately makes me look like I am super sick.
I actually sub the bright yellow I do wear for many of the mustard color combos I see and it works very well for me. I adore wearing my yellow with navy, denim and all sorts of greens.

I’ve been really hankering after yellows recently–more the bright, sunshiney shades, but mustard is definitely a good one too. I tend to stereotype it in my brain as a fall color, but it doesn’t look at all autumnal with this skirt! Cute, cute, cute, and CUTE.
