Halloween Regrets

I’m guessing this photo was taken in 2001. My mom helped with the crown and wristbands, but I did everything else. Cut out the eagle from a piece of gold lame, thrifted the skirt and bought the stars from a craft store, glued ’em on, bought the gold rope and strung it on my belt loop.

WHY oh WHY did I get rid of this costume? When I was about 5, Mom made me a Wonder Woman costume. I wore it to nursery school. Like I wore it to nursery school every single day she’d let me until it fell apart. Clearly, there should be a homemade Wonder Woman costume in my life at all times, just in case.

I think I’ll start accumulating the pieces now so I can wear it next year. For Halloween. And also just because.

I seem to remember WW boots were red? Red patent leather w buttons? Now that would be a fun part of the costume to locate. Happy Halloween!!

When I saw the title I thought you were going to try to tell us you regret having worn that costume. And I was going to tell you are insane because that is the BEST COSTUME EVAH!!

You are right. You should not have thrown it out.

    I would regret that too!

I was planning on being Wonder Woman for Halloween this year, but I didn't have the time to make a costume and I refused to pay $50-$70 for a piece of plastic that comes in a piece of plastic for Halloween. Also my students pointed out that I would be obligated to do well in the 5k I was running if I went as Wonder Woman, so I went as a cat instead….

How cute ! It's unfortunate that you can't save everything…who has room for it all?

Wonder Woman really is a timeless costume. I saw one walking around Chicago last night, with her boyfriend Superman.

That is a DAMN good WW costume. It is sad that it wasn't saved, but since it was handmade to begin with, I totally believe in your ability to create its awesomeness again. 🙂

A Wonder Woman costume is awesome in general. Your homemade version is very cool. 🙂

Shame you don't still have this but it does give you a good excuse to start scouring places for the key pieces you need. And I think you have the cuffs already?

You make a fantastic Wonder Woman (costume or no)! I hope you do accumulate the pieces to do it again next year! 🙂

That is a truly awesome homemade costume. You should definitely make one for next year!

Oh! I had Wonderwoman Underoos. Remember those? I wore them *all* the time. Well, I may have alternated with the Bat Girl Underoos…

Oh, Sal, my daughter too, and I think it was kindergarten, was Wonder Woman. I made her costume, also her Peter Pan costume, her Diana the huntress costume, her leprechaun costume. I am so happy to know that's what you also wanted to be.

Love that costume! Planning ahead is a great idea. You won’t end up with a last minute throw-together-something outfit, like what I had on this Halloween! Maybe I should start thinking about my next year costume…hmmm…

Oh.My.Goddess. Why oh why was this not one of your submissions for the WW Pose Conference?

    Also, your costume is awesome.

In addition, I, too, was Wonder Woman as a tiny girl. Given how many of us had this beloved costume (and love for the character), it makes me wonder why the heck there weren't more female superheroes kicking around to diversify our role models.

Haha, it's never too soon to start planning for next year! I didn't get to dress up this year so I think I'll be a bollywood dancer next year like I had planned. Thrifted/home made/pieced-together costumes are the best! Half the price and sturdier.

Fantastic. I hope you re-create. It is my goal every Halloween to make a costume out of existing pieces in my closet.
