Liberty of London silk scarf, Eileen Fisher linen cardigan, skinny jeans, leather wrap bracelets

This outfit features many of my current favorite pieces, but the one I treasure most of all is the scarf. It’s a vintage Liberty of London sheer silk square, inherited from my grandmother. It’s at least 50 years old, probably older.

For years, this languished in a box in my closet. I was afraid it would be too delicate to wear, but then I remembered something I’d heard my grandmother say on more than one occasion, “There’s no point in having nice things if you don’t use them.” I adore the colors in this scarf (yes, even the mustard yellow) and the paisley pattern. It’s light and sheer enough to wear in warm (not sweltering) weather. I’ve even hand washed it a couple of times, and it’s come through brilliantly. And even if it hadn’t, when I wear it I have a connection with my grandmother that I never had when it sat in a box. The moral of the story is, every day is special…wear and use your favorite things!

Love the outfit. And Deja, have to say you are rocking that blonde!! I was wondering if you could tell me about the website you linked to for the shoes–DesignsbyStephanie. Have you used it much? (At all?) It was new to me and I like the items I see, but was just curious if you could tell me your experience. Thanks!!

OMG!! I’ve been off my bloglovin for a while, working hard and trying to keep from getting distracted, and I have to tell you, you look absolutely fantastic! The clothes are great and all, but I mean YOU! That hair color and style is so flattering on you that my first thought, after wow, was maybe I should get that hairstyle. Goodness. Well done!

Wow! You look gorgeous. The colors and textures of your hair, scarf and clothes–just wow. This has to be my all time favorite of all the outfits I’ve seen on you.

I absolutely love this look, and how you honor your grandma’s memory. I really admire your style overall — you are on the casual and comfortable side but always look very chic and pulled together. I’m a woman in IT and all of us here at work (men & women) look more like we’re dressed for cleaning out the garage. Your pics and posts are great inspiration for me; I’m shooting for a similar look and still need to elevate everything (shoes and accessories will help, I think). Thanks for all the ideas.

I love it! You know, William Morris (one of the founding fathers of the Arts and Crafts movement) once wrote, “Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful.” He believed that useful things should be beautiful and that beautiful things should be used; I’ve tried to live by this rule as much as possible. Way to rock that heirloom scarf – it’s stunning!

    You look absolutely stunning!
I agree with you philosophy of using most cherished possessions as oppose to keeping them in boxes.

I love matching a hint of yellow to a gray outfit and your lovely scarf does this so very well. After reading the comments made by fellow bloggers I understand you changed your hair.. it looks so right I cannot imagine it was a different color. well done! Sara
