Insomniac Sale Picks: Sustainable Dressy or Office-appropriate Gray Cardigans

*In this late-night feature – which will run on Tuesday and Thursday of each week – I’ll gather up three fun items that are currently on sale online and share them with you! I would LOVE suggestions: Stylish wide-width pumps? Classic v-necked sweaters? Chandelier earrings? Petite dress slacks? What would you like to see featured?*

Maria requested a few picks for office-appropriate gray cardigans, ideally ones that are sustainably made. I’m including some non-sustainable options, too, since size availability and price may limit options. Here we go:

waterfall cardigan

Splendid Lurex Rib Cardigan – was $218, now $87.99

So, as this post will remind you, sustainably made clothes are generally more expensive than their non-sustainable counterparts. This made-in-the-U.S. cardigan from Splendid is a mixed-stitch design with a graceful open front, and will look lovely with blouses and trousers. Available in sizes XS – L. Couldn’t find one in gray, but this similar shape/sustainable cardigan is available in sizes 1X – 3X. (Non-sustainable options in regular, petite and plus sizes.)

long gray cardigan

Nally & Millie Mid-Length Cardigan – was $92, now $23

Also made in the U.S., this duster-length cardigan would be perfect in business creative offices. Love the slight v-neckline and clean lines. This cardigan is only left in size S/M, but this similar Nally & Mille cardigan comes in gray or teal in size L/XL as does this shorter one. Couldn’t find one in gray, but this similar shape/sustainable cardigan is available in sizes 1X – 3X. (Non-sustainable options in regular and plus sizes.)

open front grey cardigan

Splendid Cardigan – was $78, now $70.20 – $78

Another simple and streamlined cardigan from Splendid, versatile enough for both work and weekend. Reviewers point out that it’s more of a jersey than a sweater knit, so be aware. Available in sizes XS – XL. This similar/sustainable style is available in sizes 1X – 3X. (Non-sustainable in regular and plus sizes)

Everlane Cashmere Cardigan – $160

Since none of the sale picks is what I consider a traditional cardigan shape, I’m adding two non-sale sustainable picks tonight, too. This long-ish Everlane cashmere cardi is available in this charcoal gray as well as a lighter heather gray in sizes XS – L. And …

organic cotton cardigan

Fair Indigo Organic Fair Trade Jewelneck Cardigan – $79.90

This pale gray organic cotton cardigan comes in sizes XS – XL.

Sustainable resources for office-appropriate gray cardigans:

  1. Everlane – In addition to the one highlighted above, the brand offers a few more minimalist options in gray and other colors.
  2. Novica – Flowing options like this long cardigan and more traditional ones like this crew-neck.
  3. Eileen Fisher – More than 20 gray cardis, including some in petite and plus sizes. Also check eBay for more/used options.
  4. Three Dots – Arty cardis made in the U.S.

Other not-currently-on-sale resources for office-appropriate gray cardigans:

  1. Woolovers – If you’re in search of classic basics, start here. This crew neck cardigan will be in style forever.
  2. Land’s End – Several classic styles, almost all available in regular, petite, plus, and tall. This v-neck cardigan is incredibly versatile.

Sustainable options are either used, handmade, made in the U.S., artisan made in non-sweatshop conditions, or made using sustainable/fair trade practices.

  1. vxbxl

An off the wall/non-sale option, but Ureshii recently added a short cardigan that might work (the have other wraps/shrugs/boyfriend shapes too). There are smoke and granite merino options that might work nicely for a fairly casual office.
