Insomniac Sale Picks: Ankle Strap Wedges

*In this late-night feature – which will run on Tuesday and Thursday of each week – I’ll gather up three fun items that are currently on sale online and share them with you! I would LOVE suggestions: Stylish wide-width pumps? Classic v-necked sweaters? Chandelier earrings? Petite dress slacks? What would you like to see featured?*

Sierra requested a few picks for closed-toe ankle-strap wedges, so here we go:

clarks wedge

Clarks Claribel Fame Wedge Pump – was $130, now $55.16 – $104
with code SHOESNMORE

These are definitely chunky, but super cute and since they’re Clarks they’re bound to be well made. Reviewers have warned that the back and strap are somewhat stiff so these will likely wear best with tights. Available in this taupe as well as gray or black nubuck in U.S. sizes 5 – 12, including some C/D widths. Size availability varies by color.

wedge ankle strap

J. Renee Melenne – was $114.95, now $49.99

A little more streamlined and with a very manageable 2.25″ wedge, this pair is also suede and looks a bit more supple than the Clarks pair. Love that cool gray, but you can also get these in a reddish dark brown. Available in U.S. sizes 5 – 12, including AA and C widths. Size availability varies by color. Here’s a similar style in metallic finishes.

ankle strap pump

Bandolino Topical Synthetic Dress Pump – was $69, now $27.99 – $49.99

A manmade option AND a great choice if you prefer a daintier ankle strap. Love the dual texture, and most reviewers say these are quite comfortable. Available in this black as well as dual-texture gray in U.S. sizes 5 – 10.

fly london wedge

FLY London Piat Wedge Pump – was $195, now $66.15 – $184

This is the wild card of the night since it’s pretty open in design, but it is, in fact, an ankle strap wedge! And it comes in 13 gorgeous colors. Available in Euro sizes 36 – 41, as well as a couple of wide widths in UK sizes.

Sustainable resources for ankle-strap wedges:

  1. Olsenhaus – Admittedly nothing that fills all criteria, but a couple of close calls like these faux suede heels.
  2. Bali Elf – Handmade styles including this gorgeous wedge in a variety of colors.
  3. eBay – This is a tough set of criteria, but eBay has lots of options if you’re willing to winnow. Also search closed-toe ankle strap.

Other not-currently-on-sale resources for ankle-strap wedges:

  1. Dansko – Lots of super cute, comfy styles. More colors and options over on Zappos, too.
  2. Zappos – Wedges of all heights. Love these d’Orsay Via Spigas.
  3. 6pm – More than 200 great options including this stunning red pair.

Thank you so much, Sally! I’ve apparently been searching and searching for a unicorn — a pair of chic but comfortable ankle strap wedges to give my jeans-and-turtleneck daily “uniform” a little oomph. BaliELF is new to me, but wowzers, there are some gorgeous shoes and bags there!

I’ve sprained my right ankle a few times too many over the years, and I’m now paying the price. I don’t for one minute regret going to emergency rooms in Lisbon, London, the Falkland Islands, or Maui to have it treated, but it’s never again going to support me the way I’d like it to. The least I can do from now on is make it comfortable. Any heel over two inches is risking another sprain, but wedges provide some leg-lengthening, and I feel more stable in them.

In my next life I want Cathy Cambridge’s legs, her shoe collection, and her supernatural ability to glide serenely in towering heels on uneven surfaces. . .
