Insomniac Sale Picks: Black Pencil Skirts

*In this late-night feature – which will run Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday of each week – I’ll gather up three fun items that are currently on sale online and share them with you! I would LOVE suggestions: Stylish wide-width pumps? Classic v-necked sweaters? Chandelier earrings? Petite dress slacks? What would you like to see featured?*

Caroline requested a few picks for black pencil skirts (see this earlier edition for plus-sized pencil skirt recommendations), so here we go:

Halogen Seamed Pencil Skirt – was $68, now $39.90

Back in the comments section of this post, a mini thread sprung up about this very skirt. I’m full up on pencil skirts and prefer a full silhouette for myself, but many women swear that this skirt is THE most flattering pencil skirt, especially on pear-shaped figures. I’m thrilled that it’s on sale right now! In black, as well as mustard, coral, emerald, and purple in sizes 0 – 16.

Charter Club Skirt Slim Pencil Skirt – was $44.98, now $29.99
PLUS an extra 15% off with code SPRING (through 4/30)

This lined, longer length pencil skirt is a heck of a bargain, if I do say so myself. It hits below the knee, features a classic slim pencil shape, and is (apparently) machine washable! Available in sizes 4 – 16.

Karen Kane Panel Pencil Skirt – was $89, now $64.88

A bit spendier, but I definitely trust Karen Kane for quality, durability, and flattery. This paneled skirt is made from a ponte-like, stretchy material that hugs curves but is thick enough that it shouldn’t show every lump and bump. Available in sizes XS – L.

Anne Klein Classic Pencil Skirt – was $59.98, now $54.98
PLUS an extra 15% off with code SPRING (through 4/30)

I’m throwing a fourth on the fire tonight so we have two stretchy and two lined/classic options. This model has a nice thick waistband and finishes at the knee. It’s plain, but sleek and chic. Available in sizes 2 – 16.

Other not-currently-on-sale resources for black pencil skirts:

  1. Banana Republic – Caroline specifically asked for budget-friendly picks, and right now BR’s cheapest pencil skirt is $50 and it is not black. I’ve thrifted many a skirt, but most of the ones I’ve bought new I’ve bought from BR. I prefer lined pencil skirts, and if you do, too, might want to wait until the fall offerings are available. Don’t worry, I imagine they’ll set those out for sale in July some time …
  2. White House Black Market – If you need a black pencil skirt, a store focused on black and white clothing is bound to deliver! This style looks fab – sits at natural waist, fully lined.
  3. Talbots – Pencils aplenty, and year-round. Plus, as always, gotta give props to this manufacturer for including petite, tall, plus, and plus petite sizing.
  4. And, of course, THRIFT STORES! Since black pencil skirts have been a “must-have” piece for decades, most thrift stores are lousy with them. (¬†can help you locate stores near you.)

Thanks! I really like the first and third one … I’ve been stalking our thrift stores but so far no luck. But who knows, the next bonanza may be just around the corner …

If you’re on a budget and petite, JC Penny’s actually has a black pencil skirt I love. It’s $20, and mine lasted a year and a half of at least once a week wear before the hem fell. It’s machine washable, doesn’t wrinkle terribly after sitting in an office all day, and has pockets.|72066
