*In this late-night feature – which will run Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday of each week – I’ll gather up three fun items that are currently on sale online and share them with you! I would LOVE suggestions: Stylish wide-width pumps? Classic v-necked sweaters? Chandelier earrings? Petite dress slacks? What would you like to see featured?*
Anne requested a few picks for black sheath dresses, so here we go:
Nic+Zoe Ponte Sheath Dress – was $140, now $125.99
Anne was specifically searching for relatively modest black sheaths, and this one delivers. With a high neckline and knee-length hem, it’s a classic cut. And it’s made from ponte knit, so it will be stretchy and comfortable, but structured. Best of both worlds! Available in sizes XS – XL.
Vince Camuto Sheath Dress – was $128, now $51.99
Such an eye-catching neckline/collar detail on this dress! Even if you throw a blazer over it, the contrast detail will show. And the contouring lines and fixed waistband add interest. Available in sizes 2 -14. Also available in red. Size availability varies by color.
Tropical Wool Sunburst Sheath Dress – was $168, now $149.99
Another twist on the classic that will work alone or worn layered. This style is wool, yes, but tropical wool works year-round in most climates. It is lined for easy wear with hosiery in fall and winter, and falls 20.5″ from the natural waist. Available in sizes 0 -14.
Other not-currently-on-sale resources for black sheath dresses:
- Macy’s – Great selection of black sheaths, most of them classic and modest.
- Nordstrom – A few options are more appropriate to cocktail, but Nordstrom includes sheaths with high collars and full sleeves, in addition to more traditional versions like this one.
- 6pm and Zappos – Both online powerhouses showcase black sheaths in a variety of styles and at a variety of price points.
- And, of course, THRIFT STORES! Sheath dresses abound at thrift stores since they’ve been classics for decades, and black is nearly always available. (thethriftshopper.com can help you locate stores near you.)

Love that Nic+Zoe one! Its cut is very much like a taupe BR dress I scored at a consignment store and love. Plus, washable *and* pockets?? Its sizing is Small (4-6) and Med (8-10), which I’m never sure what to do with, because I’m between a 6 or an 8 – never a 4 in anything that needs to fit on the bottom and never a 10 in anything that needs to fit on the top. At least it’s Zappos; I think I’ll order both. The tropical wool would be a more conservative choice for work, but I do like the cut of the Nic+Zoe better.
Not that I personally will ever have to worry about it, but what happens when a woman is smaller than a size 0? Are there negative number sizes? Multiple 0s?
It may sound like I’m being a wisea**, but I seriously want to know.
