Insomniac Sale Picks: Budget Leather and Faux Leather Jackets

*In this late-night feature – which will run Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday of each week – I’ll gather up three fun items that are currently on sale online and share them with you! I would LOVE suggestions: Stylish wide-width pumps? Classic v-necked sweaters? Chandelier earrings? Petite dress slacks? What would you like to see featured?*

Preeti requested a few picks for leather and faux leather jackets that are budget-friendly, so here we go:

Studio M Long-Sleeve Faux-Leather Moto – was $98, now $78.40
with code BRANDS

This looks more like a scuba style jacket than a moto to me, but we’ll let it slide, Macy’s. This gorgeous gray jacket is lined, features fitted seamed panels, and claims to be machine washable. Which is kind of amazing. Available in sizes XS – XL.

1. Nixon - Rider Jacket (Black)

Nixon Rider Jacket – was $100, now $74.99

Nixon is my favorite brand for watches, but apparently they do clothing, too! If you’re a fan of bomber-style jackets, this faux leather option offers classic styling, rib-knit trim and all. Lined in cotton so it won’t get too hot, and given a pebbled finished for a believable leather look. Available in sizes XS – L.

GUESS Asymmetrical Quilted Faux-Leather Biker – was $180, now $127.99
with code BRANDS

Check out that super fabulous double flap collar! This shaped and quilted moto is edgy and feminine all at once. Available in burgundy, black, and dark green in sizes XS – XL. Size availability varies by color.

Vila Leather Biker Jacket – was $220.61, now $118.79

As you may have guessed, there are very few genuine leather jackets going for less than $150 these days. Even on sale. Which may be due, in part, to the fact that vendors are ramping up for fall right now so leather is a hot commodity. ANYHOO this cropped biker is darling and decently priced, but only available in sizes 4 – 10.

Other not-currently-on-sale resources for leather and faux leather jackets that are budget-friendly:

  1. Express – This brand’s “Minus the Leather” line has some great looking faux leather jackets. More will appear in stock as fall approaches.
  2. Wilson’s – This leather specialist stocks a range of prices, but always has some great deals in clearance.
  3. ASOS – Faux, real, and coated denim options that look remarkably leather-like.
  4. And, of course, THRIFT STORES! Many styles will be outdated, but plenty of others are classic. I nabbed my gray leather moto for $10. ( can help you locate stores near you.)

I don’t think I’d buy leather at retail. I’ve thrifted a 3/4 length camel leather jacket for $6 and a vintage fur-trimmed suede car coat for $10. Leather can be tough to wear, so there’s lots of it second-hand!

I just got a thrifted leather bomber for $15, like new condition… thrifting is the way to go.

There was a white faux leather DKNY jacket, short, but with those uber-curve-flattering pointing-down hems, this last spring that absolutely kills on an hourglass. Lovely buttery fake leather. Nice closely cut arms, not water mains. I am a 32G and it’s fine: size L in this jacket will fit about a 10-14. This jacket is so great that I bought two full price (which was like $70) in case I messed up the first one. A new one in L is up on eBay at $30 right now; someone who has clicked on this thread enthusiastically should buy it, and anyone who gets there late who’s curvy and in this size range should keep an eye on DKNY.
