Insomniac Sale Picks: Colorful Non-skinny Non-denim

*In this late-night feature – which will run Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday of each week – I’ll gather up three fun items that are currently on sale online and share them with you! I would LOVE suggestions: Stylish wide-width pumps? Classic v-necked sweaters? Chandelier earrings? Petite dress slacks? What would you like to see featured?*

Tracy requested a few picks for colorful, non-skinny, non-denim pants. We’ve done just about every other combo of colorful pants but this one, so here we go:

SONOMA life + style Modern Fit Twill Straight-Leg Pant – was $36, now $24.99

These low rise twill straight legs are a classic style and fit that will work for a range of styles. They come highly rated and are a total bargain! Available in sizes 4 – 16 including some petite and tall sizes in this orange as well as khaki, purple, pale green, teal, dusty rose, and mustard. Size availability varies by color. (Also available in a slightly higher rise in a similar range of colors.)

Style&co. Seamed Ponte Pant – was $49, now $32.99

You all know I’m a huge ponte fan, and this pair is tempting me as you read this. With a comfy flat waistband and flexible fiber, this style will feel great around your midsection while looking polished and professional. (I’d wear them with untucked shirts/sweaters, personally.) Available in sizes XS – XL in this teal and also in black.

Apt. 9 Modern Fit Tuxedo Wide-Leg Pant – was $48, now $33.60

Since the other two were straight legs, let’s look at a wide leg option. These rich burgundy pants feature a mid rise and four-pocket styling, with a front crease for a bit of formality. And they’re machine washable! Available in sizes 2 – 18.

Other not-currently-on-sale resources for colorful, non-skinny, non-denim pants:

  1. LOFT – A variety of choices in straight leg and a few in trouser leg style.
  2. Old Navy –  Loads of skinnies, for sure, but flares, straight legs, and boyfriends are in there too. And in both classic and bold colors.
  3. Talbots – Burgundy, navy, pink, mustard, and more. See especially this straight leg cord in 15 shades.
  4. And, of course, THRIFT STORES! You might have to tailor them and many pairs will have outdated styling, but believe me there are some bargainous, wearable options in there, too. In fact, most colorful pants at thrift stores aren’t skinny. ( can help you locate stores near you.)

Well those ponte front seamed pants take me back. They were all the rage in the 70’s. Ick! After one sit down the knees punch out and look like pajama pants. I bought a pair for around the house, and frankly they look worse then my sweat pants, which I would never wear beyond my property line. Ever
Maybe the 70’s style is in, but that is one look that should never have been brought back.

I bought my favorite pair of hot pink dress pants at New York & Co. I also have a pair of royal blue cropped twill pants from that store. Decent prices, a range of sizes, and short, regular and long lengths.
