*In this late-night feature – which will run Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday of each week – I’ll gather up three fun items that are currently on sale online and share them with you! I would LOVE suggestions: Stylish wide-width pumps? Classic v-necked sweaters? Chandelier earrings? Petite dress slacks? What would you like to see featured?*
Kaitlin requested a few picks for comfortable dress pants, so here we go:
Ann Taylor Straight Leg Slim Pant – was $98, now $40
(additional markdown taken in cart)
Comfort is personal, but in my opinion a high-ish rise and a hit of stretch are key. These pants feature both: Rise hits just below the natural waist and the fabric has 4% elastane for just enough give. Straight legs like these are great if you prefer a closer fit but can’t do actual skinnies for the office. Available in sizes 00 -18 in camel and navy. Size availability varies by color. Also in petite and tall sizes.
INC International Concepts Bootcut Ponte-Knit Pant – was $69.50, now $38.99
Other comfort factors include a wide, pull-on waistband and ponte knit construction. These boot cut pants will be too casual for most CEOs and lawyers, but in a business casual environment – especially paired with a smart blouse or fitted blazer – they’ll be perfect. Available in sizes 0 -16 with sizes 14W – 24W here. (This similar pair comes in a curvy fit as well as some short and long lengths.)
Stretch Straight Leg Trouser – was $120, now $79.98
And then there’s trusting to a brand that puts comfort first. NYDJ is famous for jeans, of course, but the company also makes great looking, fitting, and feeling dress pants. They bill these as straight legs, but this brand tends to run wide in the leg so these will fit more like a traditional trouser. Nice high rise, faux front pockets, and stretch for comfort. And they’re machine washable! Available in sizes 0 -14 as well as a few petite sizes. (This style isn’t NYDJ but has similar features and comes in five colors including gray in sizes 16W – 24W.)
Other not-currently-on-sale resources for comfortable dress pants:
- Land’s End – As always, high marks for comfort, quality, price, and size diversity. Options include ponte, the ultimate in pant comfort, if you ask me!
- Talbots – Another great source for size diversity and reliable comfort. Talbots stocks several rises, so you can choose from above the natural waist to a few inches below it. Stock includes tall, petite, plus, and petite plus.
- Banana Republic – I haven’t worn dress pants on the regular for years, but my work-appropriate slacks are almost all from BR. Especially helpful if you prefer lower rise styles and/or slimmer fits. Online options include petite and tall lengths, and sizes through 16.
- And, of course, THRIFT STORES! Shop carefully, as dress pants can wear in the crotch and at the hems, but quality pairs can also be thrifted for pennies on the dollar. (thethriftshopper.com can help you locate stores near you.)
