Insomniac Sale Picks: Comfy Flats

*In this late-night feature – which will run on Tuesday and Thursday of each week – I’ll gather up three fun items that are currently on sale online and share them with you! I would LOVE suggestions: Stylish wide-width pumps? Classic v-necked sweaters? Chandelier earrings? Petite dress slacks? What would you like to see featured?*

Ruth requested a few picks for comfy flats, so here we go:

clarks plush bea

Clarks Plush Bea – was $99.99, now $64.99

These are on my summer flats wishlist because 1. They’re Clarks and 2. They’re laser cut/perforated and therefore ventilated. My feet don’t get too sweaty in the hot weather, but when it’s really warm and humid out they can get uncomfortable and a little breeze would be so very welcome. I recently recommended these to an online style consult client in New Orleans who dealt with sweaty feet year-round! Available in tan, orange, red, and black in US sizes 6 – 12. Size availability varies by color. This similar Clarks style has a cap-toe and comes in cognac, black, blue, and pewter metallic.

timberland ellsworth

Timberland Ellsworth – was $90, now $62.99

I haven’t tried any Timberland flats, but my two styles of boots from this company are so well-made and comfortable to wear that I’m inclined to believe these guys will be equally easy on the feet. (They get great reviews on Zappos and elsewhere.) Elasticized flats are extremely helpful to anyone who has trouble with heels sliding out of the shoe, but they can be a little constricting. Since these don’t curl up the way some elasticized flats do, they look like a happy medium. Available in burgundy, brown, and black in US sizes 5.5 – 12, including some wide widths. Size availability varies by color. Zappos has more color options, but not all are on sale.

miz mooz panther

Miz Mooz Panther – was $99.95, now $39.99 – $44.99

Another of my favorite brands for comfort and design. Miz Mooz consistently offers adorable shoes in bright, fun colors that keep feet happy. I own this style myself and they are wonderfully comfy, but only available in a handful of sizes now. I’ve also got a pair of heels in this same scaly material, and just love them. A little bit of texture, but not over-the-top embellished. These Panther flats come in cobalt, dusty purple, red, orange, turquoise, magenta, and tan in US sizes 6 – 10. Size availability varies by color.

Other not-currently-on-sale resources for comfy flats:

  1. Clarks – My current favorite brand for flats, as you can tell from tonight’s picks. I own several pairs and can wear them for 8 hours on my feet walking. These Concert Choir flats are among my comfiest shoes.
  2. ECCO – Another standby when it comes to comfort and great design. I’m lusting after these stud detail flats.
  3. Earth – I only own one pair – the Bellwether – but they’re so phenomenally comfy I snapped them up in two colors.

I have a pair of Easy Spirit flats that I wear just about daily because they’re so comfortable. My mom swears by Dr. Scholls flats.

I have that pair of Clarks in black, and they are really great for sweaty feet! I can actually wear them without peds! Mine seem to run a little big (unusual for Clarks, I have nearly a dozen pairs of Clarks, and this is the first time the fit has been off), so double check the fit, and the black does stain the feet a bit if you have super-ridiculously sweaty feet like me. Other than that, GREAT summer flats! Super comfy, even for long standing days.

  3. Ignorant Awareness

I recently discovered a brand called ‘Life Stride’, by buying their loafers heavily discounted in TK Maxx. Their shoes are soooo comfortable (& stylish too!) There’s a lot of soft padding in the shoe, good arch support, good sole grip, and a roomy toebox (without looking frumpy). I think they’re an American brand, so even better news for those of you who are stateside- I imagine their shoes would be even cheaper for you guys!

I just purchased a pair of Earthies Vanya flats. They’re spendy for sure (~$150), but they are one of the only brands I’ve found that actually have an arch support. As a teacher, I’m on my feet all day, so I need good support.

Another contender is Vionic (previously Orthoheel), which offers Olivia, a classic ballet flat , which also has a definite arch but is not real leather.

Having worn Eccos in the past, I recently bought a pair of Ecco flats on Ebay, but I was sorely disappointed (pun intended) to find they have no support whatsoever.

My favorite, most comfy flats come from… Payless! Shocker! Usually their shoes don’t work for me, but the Dexflex Claire flats are COMFY, cute, and cheap! I currently have, oh, 6 pair, at least.

Glad to hear that you can personally vouch for the Earth Bellwether flats. I’ve been searching high and low for stylist silver/pewter wedding flats, and I’ve been leaning towards those!
