Insomniac Sale Picks: Convertible Backpacks

*In this late-night feature – which will run on Tuesday and Thursday of each week – I’ll gather up three fun items that are currently on sale online and share them with you! I would LOVE suggestions: Stylish wide-width pumps? Classic v-necked sweaters? Chandelier earrings? Petite dress slacks? What would you like to see featured?*

Amy requested a few picks for convertible backpacks, so here we go:

Latico Basics North South Convertible Laptop Bag – was $149, now $74.19

This is definitely my fave of the night since I like the look of a square-ish backpack, and love the look of a messenger bag, which is how it looks converted. This isn’t a gigantic bag, but roomy enough for most daily basics at 16″ x 11.5″ x 4″. Also comes in dark tan for $132.59 and chocolate brown for $63.51.

BG Canvas Hobo Style Multipurpose Backpack – was $91.67, now $36.67

Still roomy at 14″ x 4″ x 15″, this tote bag converts into a cinch-top backpack. It’s mostly canvas, and I believe the leather trim is faux. Available in this brown as well as red, blue, black, or olive. (Need a totally leather-free option? Try this anti-theft poly twill convertible bag.)

The Sak Ventura Backpack – was $159, now $45.34 – $108.95

If you prefer your converted handbag to look more … handbag-y this Sak bag will serve you well. It’s 12″ x 12.5″ x 5″ so a nice mid-sized option, and includes a roomy front pocket and magnet-closure flap. Available in this olive as well as cognac, tan, black, and seven canvas/print mixes. For an even more refined handbag look, try this gorgeous Royce Leather convertible bag.

Levi’s Valencia Convertible Briefcase – was $170, now $79.99

Not exactly a courtroom-friendly briefcase, but an interesting variation on the backpack-to-square shape seen most frequently in convertible bags. 15″ x 12.25″ x 3.75″ so quite generous, and features a sleek, minimalist design. Also available in tan or blue.

  1. Dust. Wind. Bun.

This is much more of a purse that can go into two straps in backpack configuration, but I have one and love it:

I got mine at Sears last fall for like half price (since I bought the red version). I used it for vacation travel and it worked great – a perfect pocket for my phone (and I had an oversized smartphone then); it would hold both my mini tablet and my ereader (yes, I am a gadget nerd), and a lot more, without looking too bulky or heavy. I’ve carried it frequently since then too – I work in a very casual environment so no one would look twice at even a giant backpack, but I expect it would be suitable in a more business-casual environment as well.

Looks like Kohls has them right now: http://www.kohls.com/product/prd-1578362/multisac-3-in-1-convertible-backpack.jsp?color=Black
