Insomniac Sale Picks: Dresses with Sleeves

*In this late-night feature – which will run on Tuesday and Thursday of each week – I’ll gather up three fun items that are currently on sale online and share them with you! I would LOVE suggestions: Stylish wide-width pumps? Classic v-necked sweaters? Chandelier earrings? Petite dress slacks? What would you like to see featured?*

Chronologie Vintage requested a few picks for spring dresses with 3/4 or half-sleeves, so here we go:

Banana Republic Piped Ponte Fit-and-Flare Dress – was $150, now $90
with code BRMORE

You won’t be surprised to hear that I love everything about this dress: It’s seasonless ponte knit, has princess seams, a v-neck, a flared skirt, and comes in a gorgeous shade of cobalt blue. The piping is a fun touch and it also features an exposed zip in back. Wear it now with bright jewelry and sandals, then add a jacket and tights come fall. Available in this cobalt and also in black in sizes 0 – 16. Also comes in tall and petite sizes. This dress is more of a sheath, but cobalt, half-sleeved, and in sizes 14W – 24W.

boden edie dress

Boden Edie Dress – was $128, now $76.80

This 3/4-sleeve surplice dress is just plain pretty. With slightly belled sleeves and an asymmetric wrap detail at the waistline it’s got both personality and elegance going for it. Skirt is more a-line than flared. Available in this print as well as a navy/turquoise/magenta small floral in sizes 2 – 18, including some tall sizes. Size availability varies by print. This dress has short sleeves but similar colors and details and comes in 0X- 3X.

lands end elbow dress

Land’s End Elbow Sleeve Modal Dress – was $55, now $33
with code SALUTE and pin 4227

Land’s End modal is pretty drapey, but still sturdier than most, in my experience. And this flirty little dress will work for the office with a cardigan or scarf but also for date night with some killer shoes and a statement necklace. Elbow-length sleeves make it summer-appropriate but also easy to layer. Available in purple in XS and black in XS – XL, as well as petite, tall, and plus sizes.

stripe ponte skater dress

Eliza J Stripe Ponte Knit Skater Dress – was $138, now $82.80

Another flared skirt, I know, but straight-skirted dresses with sleeves are a rarity these days. (This Kohl’s option was one of few, also in plus.) And this one is ponte, striped, AND pleated. My heart sings. The waist sits a little lower on this dress than on typical skater styles, so might be a good bet if you’re long in the torso. Available in sizes 2 – 16. ASOS Curve has loads of cute skater dresses in plus sizes, though none are striped.

Other not-currently-on-sale resources for spring dresses with 3/4 or half-sleeves:

  1. eShakti – You’ll have to pay a bit more to customize, but many of their dress styles come with the option of adding sleeves of various lengths and styles. This radiant orchid knit dress would be fab with half or 3/4 sleeves added.
  2. ASOS – Trendy and short, for the most part, but lots of sleeved dresses in fun styles, including maternity, petite, and plus.
  3. Boden – Bless Boden for always stocking a sleeved dress or two. This abstract floral print with contrasting belt is classy and versatile.
  4. Land’s End – Definitely the winner in this category, with dozens of 3/4- and half-sleeve dresses this season. This printed pleat-neck dress is just lovely.

I own 2 of that Land’s End dress in the sleeveless version, and I love it to death. It’s comfortable, doesn’t wrinkle, looks phenomenal, doesn’t cause a Marilyn Moment when it’s windy, and doesn’t make me sweaty (that last note is a requirement in most of my tops/dresses because I am a person who overheats/sweats easily and wet underarms is super uncomfortable). Note that if you’re busty, you WILL be showing some cleavage with the top, so if you’re uncomfortable with that you’ll need to come up with a solution (cami underneath, for instance).

Another vote for the Lands End dress. I own one in magenta (thanks for that idea, Sally) and a sleeveless in cobalt. They’re good for summer, but also good for cooler weather with tights and boots and a cardi on top. Also great belted. Crazy versatile.
