Insomniac Sale Picks: Nude Layering Camis

*In this late-night feature – which will run Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday of each week – I’ll gather up three fun items that are currently on sale online and share them with you! I would LOVE suggestions: Stylish wide-width pumps? Classic v-necked sweaters? Chandelier earrings? Petite dress slacks? What would you like to see featured?*

Kristi requested a few picks for slippery, nude camisoles for layering, so here we go (Kristi herself specified that she has very pale skin, so most of these are pale. If your skin is darker, see recommendations below.):

Spanx Hide & Sleek Shaping Camisole – was $42, now $38.99

Geez, virtually all the nude camisoles on the market these days are shape wear models. Can’t say as I’m thrilled by that, but since they’re so prevalent, I’ll include one in tonight’s post. This version has double layer compression from the bra line downward. Plain, wide straps will be unobtrusive beneath clothing. Available in sizes S – 2X (sold out in M) in this tan and in black.

Daisy Fuentes Seamless Camisole – was $18, now $8.99

One of the few non-shape wear options, this simple nylon/spandex cami is also available in more shades than most: Ivory, white, black, and dark brown. If you prefer adjustable straps to accomodate varying necklines, this is a good bet. Available in sizes S – XL.

Vanity Fair Perfect Lace Reversible Camisole – was $20, now $14

True, that lace isn’t going to work beneath thin or clingy tees. But the “reversible” aspect of this cami is pretty smart: One side has a v neckline, turn it around and you’ve got a scoop. Nifty, no? Available in white, tan, and black in sizes S – XL.

Other not-currently-on-sale resources for nude camisoles for layering:

  1. Bare Necessities – This lingerie clearinghouse has LOADS of options, including plus sizes.
  2. Victoria’s Secret – My Vicky’s Secret nude cami is older than my marriage. Most “nudes” are on the dark tan side, but fewer options for very light Caucasian and dark African-American skin tones.
  3. Target – Affordable options in a wide variety of sizes. My other nude cami hails from Target.
  4. Nordstrom – Fantastic variety of styles and sizes, and a variety of skin tones.

I wear a layering tank under most everything. I just like the way they smooth everything out just enough. My favorite ones are by Lady Hathaway and come in a two-pack at Costco, of all places. The package comes with a neutral and a color (so white/purple, nude/lavender) and costs, about $10.

Eek! That’s not nude, that’s cream or tan. Not to mince words, but as a white woman, I do not think women of color would identify nude as a light tan color (I apologize to people of color for assuming their feelings in this comment). She might even be insulted that this post does not relate to her. I cannot know nor can I fathom how bothersome this might be. However, that is not nude. It’s a color. Nude describes being without clothes and the this post relates only to white women of an average caucasian color.

I love your work and understand that you like being sensitive to people. Could you choose another term to describe skin-toned colors for women? It’s definitely not nude, cause my nude would be straight up alabaster! đŸ™‚
