*In this late-night feature – which will run on Tuesday and Thursday of each week – I’ll gather up three fun items that are currently on sale online and share them with you! I would LOVE suggestions: Stylish wide-width pumps? Classic v-necked sweaters? Chandelier earrings? Petite dress slacks? What would you like to see featured?*
Carolyn requested a few picks for petite shift dresses, so here we go:
Banana Republic T-Back Shift – was $120, now $72 – $90
with code BRWEEKEND
Hurrah for pockets! This drapey triacetate shift has a T-shaped cutout in back so it’ll require a strapless bra or cardigan/jacket for coverage in most cases. Hot pink is great with darker colors including black and the rich burgundy shown here in the shoes, so this dress can be layered up for fall wear. Available in this pink as well as black in petite sizes 00 – 14. Also available in regular and tall sizes. Size availability and and price vary by color. This similar dress is available in sizes 14 – 22.
Pendleton Petite Animal Print Shift – was $159, now $96.99
This dress is a linen/rayon blend so might feel a little to summery to wear through fall. But a timeless print in a darling shape – love that folded collar – and knee length. (An attribute Carolyn was hoping for, and having trouble finding.) Available in petite sizes 2 – 18, sold out in 4P and 14P. Also in regular sizes 4 – 16. This similar dress is much shorter, but available in sizes 14 – 24.
LOFT Petite Lace Stripe Shift Dress – was $118, now $59.88
Carolyn was also hoping for solid colors, but they were in seriously short supply. This Eileen Fisher dress comes in black and this Land’s End Tee Dress might pass for a shift, but neither is fabulous, in my opinion. This layered lace shift is definitely summer-appropriate, but I can see toughening it up with a black blazer and ankle boots once the weather begins to cool. Available in petite sizes 00 – 16. Also available in regular sizes. This similar dress is available in sizes 14 – 24.
Other not-currently-on-sale resources for petite shift dresses:
- ASOS – This art deco print shift is lovely. Also bear in mind that ASOS cuts dresses very short, so some non-petite options may work.
- Macy’s – It’ll take some digging, as many sheaths aren’t labeled as such, like this striped 3/4-sleeve dress.
- Modcloth – An awful lot of sheaths come up when you search for shifts, but options like this fun plaid and this darling Peter Pan collar shifts are mixed in. As with ASOS, most of these are not technically petites, but they are incredibly short in the hem. With shifts, waistline placement isn’t an issue but sleeves/armholes may need adjustment to fit some petite frames.
- And, of course, THRIFT STORES! Shifts are a little tough to style, so they often end up getting donated. Truly petite ones may be rare, but some may work after alterations. (thethriftshopper.com can help you locate stores near you.)
