Insomniac Sale Picks: Plus Size Blouses with Interesting Details

*In this late-night feature – which will run on Tuesday and Thursday of each week – I’ll gather up three fun items that are currently on sale online and share them with you! I would LOVE suggestions: Stylish wide-width pumps? Classic v-necked sweaters? Chandelier earrings? Petite dress slacks? What would you like to see featured?*

Danielle requested a few picks for plus size blouses with interesting collar shapes or details, so here we go:

Vince Camuto Print Faux Wrap Top – was $79, now $47.40

Wrap tops can be tricky, with gapping and fit issues abounding, but in my experience this style – with a high, narrow wrap and ruching on the side – causes less issues than most and can be incredibly elegant on. Totally love this black and white print, too. Versatile and trendy. This version is available in 1X – 3X. You can also nab this blouse in a black background in 3X for $41.40, and a multicolored print in 1X – 3X.

plus size lace top

ING Short-Sleeve Lace Top – was $49, now $28.79
with code PRES

On its own, this top might seem a little casual, but just imagine it peeking out from a blazer for work. Or go with the casual vibe and pair it with a utility jacket for weekend, juxtaposing the lacy neckline against the tough vibe of the jacket. So many possibilities! Available in this coral and also in black in 1X – 3X. (And if you dig the lace look, this 3/4 sleeve blouse is lovely, too.)

eshakti side button

eShakti Side Button Top – was $49.95, now $39.96
Entire site is currently 20% off!

This is a knit top so might not seem blouse-y to some, but it’s far from being casual or commonplace! I adore the slightly military feel and can imagine this with about a dozen different skirts. Could also slip on over a dress for colder weather. Available in XS (0) to 6X (36W) in this lovely plum and also in black. (For a more traditional blouse, this shell pink bow crepe top is incredibly elegant. Also through 6X.)

black epaulet plus size blouse

ING Long-Sleeve Colorblocked Top – was $54, now $30.39
with code PRES

Since most of tonight’s options are traditionally feminine, I wanted to throw in a tougher looking top. With subtle colorblocking that recalls epaulets, this vivid red blouse makes a strong statement. Available in sizes 1X – 3X.

Other not-currently-on-sale resources for plus size blouses with interesting collar shapes or details:

  1. Modcloth – This was my first recommendation to Danielle. Modcloth’s plus size offerings are all packed with fun details, like this fox print Peter Pan collar blouse which is available through 4X.
  2. Torrid – More edgy than retro, but lots of fun blouses like this polka dot color block one.
  3. Igigi – This vendor is known for their dresses, but has some lovely and thoughtfully detailed tops, too.
  4. Nordstrom – Really, always check Nordstrom. So many great options, including this mixed print top with a keyhole neckline.

That lace top reminds me of something I often wonder about – tops and dresses that have a transparent upper part look pretty on the model – but what happens once you add a bra? Most women need one, and this particular garment is aimed at plus size women who are even more likely to need them. Even a coordinating bra will spoil the lines of this look.
I know there are such things as strapless bras. i own one and very occasionally wear it with some special evening thing. But they are not the most comfortable or effective and one does have to worry a bit about ‘popping out’. It is not the put on and forget garment that one wants for day time.

Agreed! I think the shirts with lace tops and sleeves are so cute, but I can’t get behind them at all because I just don’t see how bra straps underneath are appropriate for anything outside the house. I have one strapless bra, but don’t want to resort to it for everyday shirts.

Thirded. I bought the cutest black top last summer with neonish flowers and boho detailing. Damned if it didn’t have a three inch strip of black lace running up and down the back of it. Bra straps or the back of bras showing are not a look I go for. So far I wore it with a hot pink and then an orange tank underneath, but I live in the South; man, I don’t wanna layer in summer. I’m considering buying a strip of black cotton and whipstitching to cover the lace.

I love lacy shirts ~ they fit my boho style so well. However, I’ve decided I’m only going to buy lacy pieces with the tank styling like the other lace blouse Sal suggested. That one’s too fancy for me, but somewhere along those lines are what I look for now.
