Insomniac Sale Picks: Rain Boots that Fit Wide Calves

*In this late-night feature – which will run Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday of each week – I’ll gather up three fun items that are currently on sale online and share them with you! I would LOVE suggestions: Stylish wide-width pumps? Classic v-necked sweaters? Chandelier earrings? Petite dress slacks? What would you like to see featured?*

Bailey requested a few picks for rain boots that fit wide calves, so here we go:

7. Kamik - Ellie Wide (Black) - Footwear

Kamik Ellie Wide – was $80, now $63.99

Just a basic glossy rain boot, but wonderfully classic. This model is fleece-lined for cush and comfort, features a heel tab for easier on and off, and includes a removable footbed. Do note that this style is wide in the calf – 16″ – but that the footbed is still medium/B width. Super interesting bonus: “This environmentally-friendly product can be sent back to Kamik for recycling.” NEAT! Available in US sizes 6 – 10, whole sizes only.

6. Tretorn - Langta Rubber Rain Boot - Wide Calf (Charcoal Grey_Green) - Footwear

Tretorn Langta Rubber Rain Boot – was $75, now $59.99

As is the case with most styles I found, this one has a 16″ circumference which isn’t all that wide comparatively, but the buckle detail should give a tiny bit of ease at the opening at least. This boot also has a textile lining and insole for a comfort as well as a darling two-tone design. Available in navy/pale blue, gray/green, black/gray, and white/gray in Euro sizes 35 – 42. Size availability varies by color.

Western Chief Wendy Plaid-Wide Shaft  – was $44.95, now $24.99

What Bailey really wants in her life are wide shaft rain boots that are FUN, and this pair was one of the few I found in a cute print. This one has a 16″ circumference like the rest and a soft cotton lining that wicks away moisture. Available in US sizes 6, 7, and 9.

Nomad Puddles  – was $50, now $30.99

And on the off chance your calves will fit into a 15.5″ shaft, these guys come in eight wild prints including this abstract, a funky paisley, beads of water, zebra, leopard and others. All styles feature contrast trim and soles for extra zip! Available in US sizes 5 – 10, whole sizes only.

Other not-currently-on-sale resources for rain boots that fit wide calves:

  1. Hunter – I was surprised to find that this trendy brand is the main one offering fun colors in wide shaft options. Their Huntress boot has a 16.5″ shaft. Find this style at Nordstrom, Zappos, Shoes.comAmazon and elsewhere. (Mostly not on sale.)
  2. Amazon – So many fun options in a variety of colors and prints
  3. Tretorn – Several cute styles with 16″ circumference shafts.

I have that last pair! (Although unfortunately they weren’t on sale when I got them 🙁 ) My calves aren’t particularly wide, but I do like to wear them with jeans and chunky socks, and they’ve always been plenty roomy. Plus they always get so many compliments they even have me looking forward to rainy days sometimes!

Jileon is a UK manufacturer that makes wellie style boots fitting up to 19.5″ calf. You can order direct from their website and deal with import hassles, customs duties, etc. Amazon is their US outlet but doesn’t have a good selection at the moment.

SpyLove Buy Meagan also fits up to 19″ (depending on shoe size) – also available through Amazon.

OK, I admittedly seem to wear rain boots out way faster than the average person, but be warned–I had 2 pairs of Western Chief rain boots that cracked where my foot bends when I walk (what happens to all mine eventually) within a month!

I just want to say that I have a pair of Tretorn boots, and I find them very comfortable. I don’t have wide calves, so I can’t adress the fit of the model I have, but my pair has an insole that feels like a layer of memory foam! I could notice the difference very well trying on different brands. Oh, I do have an opinion on the fit after all – I remember my Tretorn pair being much easier to slip on and off than other brands, I’m sure that means the wiggleroom for calves is better!

I have that last pair! I got them at Ace Hardware for $20 as gardening boots. Maybe they were made more cheaply or something? It was last summer though so it’s hard to say if they’d still have them (probably not). They look EXACTLY like the ones in the photo though!

Any chance you’ve found any wide-calf rain boots that go up to size 12?

The Huntress from Hunter is incredibly tall, which makes it difficult to fit on wide calves. I have the Hunter “Original Short” and they are great on my 17″ calves. They are also a thicker rubber than the Huntress.
