Insomniac Sale Picks: Stylish Laptop Bags

*In this late-night feature – which will run on Tuesday and Thursday of each week – I’ll gather up three fun items that are currently on sale online and share them with you! I would LOVE suggestions: Stylish wide-width pumps? Classic v-necked sweaters? Chandelier earrings? Petite dress slacks? What would you like to see featured?*

Janet requested a few picks for stylish and practical laptop bags, so here we go:

ogio laptop case

OGIO 15″ Newt Slim Case – was $79.99, now $61.99

Such a sleek, modern-looking bag. And it has loads of great features: Fits up to a 15″ laptop with a middle compartment for tablets, front organizer pocket accommodates smartphone, pens, and has a quick detach key lanyard. Water resistant, lined with antistatic fleece, and – for added coolness – the strap can be reconfigured for shoulder or crossbody. This lighter gray is on sale and should work for all but the wettest/dirtiest climates, but the full-priced charcoal version will be ideal if your laptop bag gets a lot of dirt and abuse.

kenneth cole reaction laptop bag

Kenneth Cole Reaction Mess-ons In Life Leather Messenger – was $320, now $89.99

Not as practical for dirt reasons, I’ll admit, but as someone whose laptop bag has two traditional prong buckles, I look at this and see “ease of access.” There’s a security strap inside to keep your laptop safe in the padded sleeve and the flap has two hidden magnetic closures so your stuff should be secure. But all you have to do is flip the flap and voila, you can get at your stuff. This guy comes in chocolate brown and black, too, if a darker color of leather works better for your style and lifestyle. And people? That’s almost 70% off for this bag. Whew. (If that price is still too high, this similar bag is only $49.99. Fewer compartments and no magnets.)

lesportsac laptop bag

LeSportsac 15″ Laptop Bag – was $78, now $59.99 – $70.99

Here’s what’s great about this bag: It will be INCREDIBLY lightweight, water resistant, and easy to wash should it get dirty. However it will also be quite soft, so if you commute on a train or bus and bang around a lot, beware. I’ve had a LeSportsac cosmetic case in my purse for about eight years and it looks as great as it did the day I bought it, so I can vouch for durability. I’ve also had things explode inside it and washed it out about three dozen times. Good stuff, lightweight, but not super protective for your tech. This guy comes in several fun prints – stripes, tie-dye, a denim-y finish – and a black patent. Price varies by color. Also in 13″.

soho red leather laptop tote

Soho Triple Zip Leather Laptop Tote – was $200, now $64.99

If you prefer a laptop bag that can double as a purse, this one is dynamite. Easy access via three zip-top compartments and enough room for a 16″ laptop, tablet, and folders. The front compartment also features an extensive organizer including a phone pocket, five card slots, a gusseted open top pocket, and two pen/pencil holders. Not a fan of red? Comes in black, too! And another super bargain at almost 70% off.

Other not-currently-on-sale resources for stylish laptop bags:

  1. Kenneth Cole Reaction – I’ve done a handful of sale picks posts on laptop bags and ALL of them have featured KCR bags, including this one. They are gorgeous, sleek, and classic.
  2. Zappos – Amazing variety from spendy Jack Spade bags to affordable Burton.
  3. eBags – I feel like no one talks about eBags, but it is SUCH a great resource for bags of all kinds. The site’s laptop offerings range from leather, briefcase-like bags to sporty nylon ones.
  4. STM – I prefer leather everything myself, but it can get heavy and expensive! STM offers modern, minimalist bags and sleeves in canvas and polyester. Check the “men’s” bags, too. Why these are gendered is beyond me …

Its’s not on sale, but I have to put in a good word for my favorite laptop bag by It’s the best designed bag for both form and function that I’ve ever owned. I looked for several years before buying this one and I’m now on my second one. For those who travel and don’t want to carry an extra purse, it’s a great option. I have no associations with the company. I’m just an incredibly satisfied customer and think more people should know about them. Beautifully made, wonderful customer service.

Not currently on sale, but my favorite laptop bag is by TImbuk2:

You can customize them to no end, and choose from a variety of materials, patterns, and colors. Most are waterproof (seriously waterproof. Protected my laptop while riding my bike through tropical storm rains as a college student). My first one outlived 2 laptops, being used daily and even survived a couple of bike crashes. I finally bought a new one not because my 5.5-year-old bag had problems, but because I got a much smaller laptop and wanted a smaller bag to go with it.

Perfect timing! I’m starting a new job with a pubtrans commute where i’ll want to read my iPad, so I’m looking for a better way to carry it. These give me some good ideas.
