Insomniac Sale Picks: Stylish Workout Clothes

*In this late-night feature – which will run on Tuesday and Thursday of each week – I’ll gather up three fun items that are currently on sale online and share them with you! I would LOVE suggestions: Stylish wide-width pumps? Classic v-necked sweaters? Chandelier earrings? Petite dress slacks? What would you like to see featured?*

Amanda requested a few picks for stylish workout clothes, so here we go:

oc zazen 2 in 1 legging

OC Zazen 2 in 1 Legging – was $79, now $44.99

If, like me, you struggle with the dreaded cameltoe but still prefer a fitted look for your workout gear, skirted capris are a fabulous solution. I’ve been wearing them to my gym for about three years, and see more and more women jumping on board each year. This pair is organic cotton, so great for lower impact activities, and comes in regular, petite, and tall sizes. Available on sale in sizes S – XL in olive and flint, full range of sizes at full price in black and shale. Also see this version with full-length leggings, available in regular, petite, tall, and plus sizes.

Lole Gina Top – was $70, now $49

My workout jackets and cover-ups are mostly Lole, a Canadian company with a fabulous design aesthetic. Amanda was specifically looking for workout clothes that could be worn beyond the gym, and this adorable open-neck top would look just as cute with a pair of jeans as it would with yoga pants. Available in black heather and oatmeal heather in sizes XS – XL. Size availability varies by color. Lole runs small, so order a size up.

Performance Sport Jacket

Land’s End Performance Sport Jacket – was $69, now $39.99

I love simple, fitted track jackets for my workout over-layers. Hoodies are cute, but if you’re actually working out and don’t have your hood up, they can cause a sweaty mess between your shoulder blades. This sleek jacket has the added bonus of thumb loops for extra hand warmth in case you take your workout into the great outdoors. Available in sizes XS – XL. Also in petite and plus sizes.

fila day glow top

Fila Cap Sleeve Top – was $38, now $14.99

My own favorite workout duds are Fila. They make tops that wick but are heavy enough that they don’t cling to your every curve. This basic top may be a bit more lightweight than some of their tennis offerings, but with the criss-crossed stitch detailing it’s still more fun than a plain, solid workout tank or tee. Available in blue, yellow, red, green, and pink in sizes XS – XL. Size availability varies by color.

Other not-currently-on-sale resources for stylish workout clothes:

  1. Athleta – High marks for quality, comfort, design, and size diversity – with petite, tall, and plus sizes available in many styles.
  2. Target – Affordable, fun, and available in a variety of sizes. I’ve been ogling lots of pieces from the C9 line recently, like these funky cuffed sweatpants.
  3. Fila – My own fave! Do check them out for great workout tops.
  4. Juno Active – These are pretty basic options, but want to give a shout-out to this company since most workout clothes are available through 6X.

Thanks for the picks. I checked out Athleta (which we don’t have in NZ and I am not familiar with from my visits to the US) and found fabulous takini’. Given our Southern hemisphere summer, I need one now and amazing sale on. Thanks Sally and keep warm!

Also try the Xhileration brand at JC Penny/JCP.com. The pieces I have have stood up to weekly cold water washing for years. They are often on sale.

You can always find great sales on workout clothes in places like Marshalls, TJ Maxx, Nordstrom Rack, etc. Also, Sierra Trading Post.

Another recommendation: try a nuu-muu. They are adorable running dresses made by a lovely small company owned by women. A little pricey is the only downside.

I have had really good luck with the skirted running tights and capris from Old Navy. As a new runner I didn’t want to spend a fortune on gear this past fall. They are comfortable and are still in good condition, despite weekly laundering (including the dryer). Like most things Old Navy (and most athletic gear), they run a bit smaller than most mall store sizes.

The house brand at Road Runner Sports is also very good. I have quite a few tops from them that I would highly recommend.

Joe Fresh has excellent workout gear and at amazing prices! They were written about in some New York papers and mags when they first opened recommending them over lulu for quality! We Canadians have known that for years!

If you like skirted workout gear, my favorite is Skirt Sports at http://www.skirtsports.com. Created by a ironman winner, her line of products are great….running, walking, golfing, tri-sports, etc. They are having a great sale right now. They are my only choice for running. Love them.
