Insomniac Sale Picks: Tall Swimwear

*In this late-night feature – which will run on Tuesday and Thursday of each week – I’ll gather up three fun items that are currently on sale online and share them with you! I would LOVE suggestions: Stylish wide-width pumps? Classic v-necked sweaters? Chandelier earrings? Petite dress slacks? What would you like to see featured?*

Ry requested a few picks for swimwear for taller women, so here we go:

Contrast Plaited Tankini – was $75, now $60
discount shows when added to basket

Ry was hoping for monokinis, but those are in short supply for long torsos. I do love the unexpected color pairing of coral and navy in this suit, and the simple but elegant design. This suit might not be ideal for racing or swimming several dozen butterfly laps, but it’ll be great for less intense swimming and lounging activities. Available in tall sizes 6 – 18.

Great Lengths Long Torso One-Piece – was $88, now $61.60

A simple suit, yes, but the stripe placement makes for an eye-catching pattern and a curve-enhancing fit. I’m a big fan of simple tanks in interesting prints, and this little love definitely fits the bill. Available in tall sizes 8 -18, and also in tall sizes 16W – 24W. If you don’t love this specific print, check out the whole Great Lengths line over at Kohl’s.

J.Crew Long Torso Ruched Underwire Tank$114

It’s true, not on sale. But I’m including this suit because just about every other option I came across started sizing at 6 or 8, and J.Crew offers long torso style from 0 -16. This particular style comes with detachable straps, and I think it looks far cuter with them on! Available in this flame orange, burgundy, lavender, charcoal, navy, turquoise, mint green, teal, and black, all in long torso sizes. Size availability varies by color.

L.L. Bean Summer Harbor Swimdress – was $91.95, now $69.99

I don’t generally dig swimdresses, but with the pin dot print and twisted halter-neck detail this one looks sassy and fun. The back features crossed straps for a secure fit. Available in this mint and coral dot, as well as navy and turquoise dot which are not on sale in tall sizes 8 -18. Size availability varies by color.

Other not-currently-on-sale resources for swimwear for taller women:

  1. Land’s End – LE is my go-to for ALL swimwear, as I mentioned above. 41 fabulous tall suits, many very reasonably priced.
  2. Athleta – Loads of cute styles including rashguards, tankinis, and one-pieces.
  3. Nordstrom – Sizing here is actually “long torso,” which may also help some women who are long-waisted but not super tall!
  4. Long Tall Sally – Just a handful of suits, but from the experts on tall fitting. Love this keyhole back one-piece.
  5. J.Crew – Also “long torso,” and unlike many others sizing starts at 0. This gingham print is darling.

The tankini is so cute! And totally grown up without being matronly. I love it!

Could you do one of these insomniac sale picks features on denim shorts for the spring/summer that are cute yet grown up (read: not “mom shorts”)? Everything I see these days are tiny, frayed booty shorts that no one above the age of 15 should be seen in.

You’re so great, Sally, thank you so much! I love that tankini, too…that’s the first tankini I’ve seen that I think I could actually rock without feeling like a blob. đŸ™‚

I never realized I had a long torso until I started wearing one piece suits post childbirth. I guess I didn’t pay close enough attention while trying on the suit, but it never occurred to me. I was just uncomfortable as could be and then the light bulb went off as to why. Never got another suit though, as my time at the beach and pool was very limited. However, since a summer beach vacation is already in the books for this year, I’m going to check out that tankini in the first pic. Love it.

FYI, ASOS just recently created a category for tall women. It only has 125 items in it right now, but there are more every day, and I bet come summer you’ll see some trendy swimwear options like monokinis.

Swimsuits in unusual sizes go fast. If you know you’ll be someplace where you need to wear one it’s better to go ahead and pay full price and get a size that fits and is comfortable. By the time they go on sale it’s all mismatched sizes/patterns.
