Insomniac Sale Picks: Wool Pullover Sweaters

*In this late-night feature – which will run Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday of each week – I’ll gather up three fun items that are currently on sale online and share them with you! I would LOVE suggestions: Stylish wide-width pumps? Classic v-necked sweaters? Chandelier earrings? Petite dress slacks? What would you like to see featured?*

Amy requested a few picks for wool pullover sweaters, so here we go:

Banana Republic Bold Stripe Pullover – was $69.50, now $49.99

Banana Republic is typically a good bet for some merino action, including this 100% wool shallow scoopneck. Available in this magenta/navy stripe, mustard/cream stripe, chestnut/cream stripe, and orange/camel stripe in sizes XS – XL, including some tall sizes. Size availability varies by color.

lands end merino sweater

Land’s End Drop Shoulder Merino Scoopneck Sweater – was $64, now $21.99

This style of neckline could work with a bib-shaped statement necklace, but I totally love it as shown here with a button-front layered underneath. Available in purple, heather gray, navy, and mustard in sizes XS – XL. This exact style isn’t available in plus sizes but this knotted neck 100% merino sweater is available in 0X – 3X.

jcrew merino v neck

J.Crew Merino V-Neck Sweater – was $79.50, now $59.63
with code SWEATERS

With a deep neckline and a slightly slouchy fit, this sweater will look fabulous with slim pants or a pencil skirt. Available in gray, navy, black, washed red, lavender, pale blue, and camel in sizes XXS – XL. Not a fan of the deep v? The J.Crew Tippi has a shallow scoopneck, is also on sale, and comes in XXL/20!

Other not-currently-on-sale resources for wool pullover sweaters:

  1. Brooks Brothers – This stuff is not cheap, but it is cozy, real wool, and beautifully made. Get a load of this mini-cable cowlneck.
  2. Boden – Some blends, but often with cashmere. Love this roll neck sweater.
  3. And, of course, THRIFT STORES! Since many brands are only doing wool blends now, look to the past when 100% wool was more common. ( can help you locate stores near you.)

These are beautiful…could the average person wear them without something underneath? I’m looking for the most versatile/core wardrobe piece, the black v neck sweater, semi fitted (like the J Crew one above) that could be worn on the skin as well as over t necks, blouses, etc. Thanks, as always, for your postings!!

Just a note on thrift stores – you might want to suggest ways people can avoid getting moth and other bug infestations, especially when buying clothes that can’t just be thrown in hot water.

I just found you!!! Love your blog. I would love to see some long cardigans. They are kinda hard to find. I have always loved cardigans – I remember in the 80’s I would wear my cardigan backwards (no shirt underneath) with jeans and high heels – I thought I was hot stuff!! Now in my 50’s I love to wear a tank, cardigan, pretty scarf and earrings with my jeans. Please keep us the good work – I am enjoying it so much.
