Kristine’s Favorite Lipsticks

When it comes to products, I’ve been known to play the field. If I have a bad day, I take a much needed trip to Sephora and try something new. If I have a good day, I take a much needed trip to Sephora and try something new. Those little shelves by the register with the “trial size” of everything will be the death of me. You see, I’m a sucker. I work in retail and I’m exactly the kind of customer I dream about. You don’t even need to persuade me to buy things, you just need to point me in the direction of things. I stop shopping when I run out of money. That is literally the only reason. There is no other reason. I’m never like “I’m just not in the mood” or ” There’s nothing I really want today.” It just doesn’t happen. I’m trying to fill the void in my soul with consumerism, like a good American.

I don’t end up coming back to most of these impulse buys. I love ’em and leave ’em. It’s the rush of a cosmetic one-night stand, and then I’ve moved on to the pursuit of the next shiny thing as I take my walk of shame back to Sephora. I know what I’m doing is wrong, but it just feels so good I can’t stop. I’m like Louis CK eating a Cinnabon.

While I have a wandering eye for all beauty products, it’s especially bad when it comes to lipstick. I could wear a different lipstick every day of the year and still want more. I can’t go more than a few days without finding a new obsession. Every so often though, my love is pure. I find a lipstick that becomes an integral part of my beauty routine. These lip colors and I have an unbreakable bond. Sure, they don’t know what I’m off doing, but they know who I come home to. And that’s what matters.

MAC “O”: This lipstick is an enigma. It somehow manages to be unique, subtle, daring, and basic at the same time. The metallic color shifts from purple to bronze to red. I’ve found it to be the perfect compliment to both cool and warm colors. When I’m not quite sure what lip color would be the right finishing touch for an outfit I always find myself reaching for this and it’s never not been a success.

NYX Trickery: I never realized I needed a metallic olive green lipstick until I found one. This color incorporates green, gold, and brown tones for a multidimensional finish. It’s surprisingly wearable for a “weird” color. If you’re used to wearing brown shades this would be a cool update.

Nars Club Mix: I’m not typically drawn to lip colors in the pink family, but I’ve totally fallen for this purple toned mauve. It gives an amazingly shiny finish and is natural-looking without being boring.

Revlon Standout: If I could only wear one red lipstick for the rest of my life, I would pick this one. It’s not too dark or too bright, a medium blue-toned red. I rarely choose my lip colors by the popular rubrics for what’s “flattering” but this just so happens to fit. It really brightens up your face and makes your teeth look whiter. Plus it stays on all day.

Urban Decay Smog: This color was from their 90s collection so of course I love it. Its a metallic gold tinged ever so slightly with green. It gives an awesome otherworldly vibe.

MAC On and On: This lipstick was described by a friend as “the Kristine-iest” because it’s almost pure glitter. It’s a mixture of magenta, teal, and purple. This has to be the most glittery lipstick I own which is saying something, I’ve never seen anything like it. The texture is
surprisingly smooth and not gritty.

I will gladly repurchase each and every one of these colors for as long as they are made. True love is 4evr.
