Lovely Links: 3/12/10

SO MUCH good stuff this week, friends!

Monday was International Women’s Day. As one might expect the Huffington Post had some great and varied articles on the day and its significance.

As many of you requested, the Academichic ladies have pulled together a reading list on the history of fashion or fashion theory writings.

Lovely Lauren is in the process of launching a magazine that will do what we’d all love to see done: Showcase affordable, accessible looks targeted at a variety of body types and lifestyles. She’s looking for contributors! Are you game?

I fell in love with a white rabbit this week. What style!

Simon Doonan, creative director of Barney’s, thinks women should stop striving for an unachievable ideal. Hey, me too.

When you’re choosing a top to wear with a patterned skirt, do you just pick anything that goes? Consider Imogen’s suggestion: Brights to call attention to your top half, darks to draw attention to the skirt itself.

Not all fit issues are borne of being too large. Meet Alterations Needed, a 27-year-old woman who is 4’11” and 85 pounds and LOATHES being told to shop in the children’s section. Her blog is a great resource for petites.

Jentine of myedit rocks the sequined butterfly top I’ve been dreaming of for ages.

Lovely Miguelina was inspired by an older post of mine to accept and acknowledge her own beauty. Out loud.

Franca’s thoughts on what “sustainable fashion” really means are some of the clearest and most rational I’ve ever read.

Donate a gently used pair of shoes to Kenneth Cole anytime this month and get 20% off your next purchase. You’ll also get the fabulous feeling of knowing your castoff footwear will help the victims of the Haiti earthquake via Shoes4Soles.

If Joann looked any cuter in her Alice-inspired outfit, it might make my face melt off.

Alex Flair did a little interview with me on some of my favorite things!

And from the Department of Random: HM and I are planning our first big trip in more than five years, and this post is making me rethink our destination. We should go EVERYWHERE.

Thanks again for having the Academic Chics' guest post on dressing in an academic milieu. I enjoyed the post because of the universality of the issues women face in professional contexts over how they clothe themselves. I already posted this over there, but I really appreciate the reading list and other commenters' additional suggestions. I don't want to be a total kiss ass, but I don't think I've ever savored as rich a dialogue on a blog before. This is a mighty Internet Presence you have.

I am so glad I found your blog! I "think" I look great in something, then after seeing the photos I am amazed at how off my perception is! plus, being over 40 makes me still want to wear things that no longer flatter me. Thanks for your inspiration! ( I am your newest follower!)

I saw from your favorites post you're reading Edgar Sawtelle. I loved that story, but oh so sad. My dog's a lot like Almondine. 🙂

As for your travel plans, funny you should link to all those photos. I just finished Eat, Pray, Love (I know everyone else has already read it!) and it made me want to GO PLACES!!! I made a list of about 15 places I'd like to visit in the next 20 years.

I really enjoy your link posts. Thanks!
