Lovely Links: 7/20/12

A few quick notes:

I will be speaking on a panel at BlogHer ’12 in New York at the beginning of August!
Let me know if you’ll be attending, as I’d love to connect.

I was interviewed in METRO Magazine about my new book. The interview is right here, and I also contributed a piece about
10 style rules that are just begging to be broken!

Come join the fun conversations we’re having about style, body image, shopping, and more on Facebook and Twitter.

I’m thrilled to report I will be contributing to The Huffington Post’s style section! My first post discusses how all women have the right to bare their arms.

Worn Through analyzes a recent NYT article about Ann Romney’s fashion choices and discusses the implications of fashion as a political campaign tactic.

What a difference a necklace can make! This post illustrates how a bold, colorful necklace can totally transform five different outfits.

Beauty Bets rounds up the best natural and mostly-natural sunscreens, including my new favorite product in the universe Boscia’s BB Cream.

Lyddie is all elegance in her olive print frock and tassel necklace.

Love this quote and the post that shared it,”The reason we struggle with insecurity is because we compare out behind-the-scenes with everyone else’s highlight reel.”

The scarcity model says that if the person that you’re comparing yourself to is (arguably) prettier than you, then that person has grabbed up too much of that thing called pretty and now there’s less for you. Same thing goes for fame or money or talent or intellect—the belief that those things are scarce makes up compare ourselves to others in terms of how much of those things we have versus what they have.”

There’s something very of-the-moment about slouchy cargos worn with pops of bright pastel colors.

ideeli has teamed up with Good Morning America contributor Tory Johnson for Tory’s Shop, a summer-long series of ideeli sales that feature some of their favorite woman-run design labels.

Gracey rounds up her favorite shopping resources for tall and tall-plus women.

Black and white pair harmoniously in many chic outfits, but are there any hidden secrets to wearing them together?

Don’t totally agree with this piece, but it brings up some fascinating points. “The people who buy bags that costs thousands of dollars are not going to try to save some pennies by buying a knock-off.  Or, to put it the inverse way, the people who are buying the counterfeits wouldn’t suddenly be buying the originals if their supply ran out.”

As my style consult clients will tell you, I’m currently obsessed with pairing red and turquoise. So, naturally, I’m gaga for this outfit.

Did you hear about the Not Photoshopped campaign? Amazing. As is Off Our Chests, the company that launched it.

Shen Dove has found the world’s most amazing pair of pink pants. It’s true!

HOW did I miss that my girl Amy Poehler launched a YouTube channel called Smart Girls? HOW, I ask you? See especially The Locker. So much fabulousness. (Via Weesha’s World)

Words cannot express how ardently I wish I’d been able to attend the world’s largest rainbow parade.

If you’re looking for some minimalist inspiration, take a peek at Style Odyssey. Stephanie is utterly amazing.

Lanvin has hired one of the marvelous women featured in Advanced Style to model for their fall campaign. She’s 82.

The shoulder cutouts on this shirtdress are just so darned pretty.

And from the Department of Random: How about a little vintage “Dennis Quaid is here”?

How does the Boschia BB cream work color wise? I’ve been a fan of BB creams for several years now- I have to order them online as most are from Korea. I find it a bit tough to find one pale enough for my winter skin- Missha is the closest I can find…

Hmmm, I’m a little warmer now since it’s summer, but for now anyway the Boscia BB Cream is FANTASTIC for my pale skin. You have to blend it in pretty vigorously, but it has that magical skin-matching property that many foundations now have. (I assume it has something to do with fairy dust. Or extremely fancy science. Or both.)
