I would love to hear some input on the process of finding a good pair of boots! Growing up, boots were always worn with a specific functional purpose in mind, either for dirty messy work or getting in/out of the ski lodge while on vacation. In the past couple of years, as I’ve grown into putting effort into my style, I’ve also started looking for a nice pair of boots. However, everywhere I turn, it feels like I can’t find anything that hits the perfect trifecta of fitting my style, fitting my pinched-penny budget, and fitting me. Looking online at sites like 6pm gets me closer, but I have no idea how to even guess if the boot will fit in the height and calf (valid concerns when you fall well outside the norm in leg-length!). I’d love to be able to pull out a pair of trusty boots as the weather turns cold and wet, but I just can’t seem to make the jump!

Accessorization is challenging. I know it is. And adding yet another consideration to the outfit-construction pile might make you want to say, “Forget it. I shall wear the same stud earrings until they become one with my lobes, refuse to swap out my necklace, and ignore the existence of belts and scarves.” But I’m hoping this particular discussion will be more intuitively helpful than irritatingly overwhelming.

You’ve done balancing a long torso and downplaying hips but I was wondering if you could do something on short torsos? I’ve got “great” hips (ie they’re quite large), long legs, no torso and broad shoulders. I seriously look like a Sailor Moon character when I wear pants (because my navel is just that high and due to my hips I can’t wear pants lower than they’re designed) so I just don’t wear pants. Since my torso is so squat and I have those annoying internal organs jammed into a small space, there’s no definition to my waist. If it weren’t for the hips, I’d have no curves at all. I also have trouble wearing wide belts because my lack of a torso means if I wear a belt with anything that has a waistband the belt ends up squashed, unpleasantly, between the waistband and my breasts.
