I didn’t even mean to illustrate my own point today, I swear! But when I pulled on my red sheath dress and sunshine yellow cardigan with these shoes and this scarf, it just didn’t work. It wasn’t coolness, specifically, that I was going for and the problems with the original outfit iteration had to do with how the items fit and worked together … yet I DID end up reaching for my black shirt dress, knowing it would just work. And I do feel cooler than I would’ve pushing the color envelope today. read more

This dress has always been reserved for special occasions because it’s reeeeeeally low cut. But when the Cleava folks sent me their nifty little invention to try out, it suddenly became work-appropriate! The insert snaps onto your bra to fill deep necklines, and since it’s just a triangle of fabric it lends modesty without adding bulk to your whole torso the way a tank or shell might. read more

Today I sat on a panel with local style expert Meghan of High Plains Thrifter, who is just about the most fabulous gal I’ve ever met. Since we were speaking about dressing professionally on a budget to a group of super-awesome AmeriCorps volunteers, I figured I’d better tone down the funk. BUT! Since we were also talking about maintaining personal style while still conforming to professional dressing standards, I made sure to include some fun accessories and pops of color. read more
