Gracey Wears: A Crop Top

Yes, that’s right, several seasons after they came back in style, I’ve decided to try wearing a crop top:

One reason I thrift so many midi skirts is that you can hike them up to your rib cage if needed.  I hiked this one all the way up,  so there is no gap between my waistline and the hemline of my top:

I know a sliver of skin can be an effective way to combat the inherent boxiness of crop tops, and is considered on-trend, but not where I work.  In fact, there was a minor kerfuffle the other day over bare ankles (not mine), so, yeah, a sliver of skin is not happening. read more

Red Lips and Blue Jeans

As I’ve said approximately 90 trillion times, red is my favorite color. I’ve always been told that I look ravishing in red, which is part of its appeal, but I also love its implications of power and passion. And yet, even though I wanted desperately to do bold red lips, every red lipstick I’d ever tried looked positively clownish on me. So for ages, I assumed I just wasn’t a red lips girl. But eventually I realized that there were as many shades of red as there were women in the world and I was never going to pick a good one for myself by guessing. So I swung by my local Sephora. I said, “Red lipstick makes me look awful. But I’d like a shade that actually works for me.” The gal grabbed a tube of Make Up For Ever in Rouge Artist Intense 44, I slapped it on, and nearly fell over. read more

This Week I Love …

… burgundy. Wine. Maroon. Bordeaux. The family of rich, dark reds that has proven itself to be a remarkably versatile group of colors. This thrifted sweater got worn almost once per week last winter, and those tights got a real run for their money, too. I’m on the prowl for more burgundy-colored items these days, knowing that this color is both super trendy for the season and incredibly useful within my own wardrobe.
