Here’s the part where I reveal, once again, that I’m a relative newcomer to the world of fashion. I’m pretty sure that scarves were NOT considered to be appropriate summer accessories until about 10 years ago. I mean, aside from the occasional riding-in-a-convertible headscarf. Is that wrong? Have summer scarves been fashionable for ages and I just didn’t know it?
Regardless, I love keeping my scarves in rotation year-round, but find them more challenging in hot, sticky weather. So I thought I’d share a few ways that I love to style my scarves during the summer.

I was wondering if you could maybe do a post on scarves for larger-chested girls like myself. I love scarves, but I have large breasts and they never seem to lay right. Do you have any advice?
I am not in possession of a large bust myself, but I’ve worked with style clients who are busty and struggle to make scarves work. So I’ll offer a few tips, and ask you all to chime in with more!
A giant, thick, oversized scarf is likely to add bulk and volume to the figure of a large-busted woman – or, really, any woman – especially if she also has a shorter neck and/or long and voluminous hair. On the other hand, there’s something to be said for scale: A teeny silk square may look lost on your frame, or make your bust appear even bigger. So depending on your personal figure flattery priorities, you might consider tracking down a medium-sized scarf that feels like it matches the scale of your unique frame.

Reader Sarah sent me this question:
I love making and wearing necklaces. Between my own creations and the necklaces I have purchased, I have a large collection of necklaces, and wear a necklace most days. As a result, I have been slow to take up the scarf craze. Lately, I have seen women combining a necklace with a scarf. Can you offer tips on how to do this?
This is a tough one, but I’ll do my best!
Long strand and loosely tied square
HOOOWEEE, that’s an oldie from the archive. This represents one of the few times I’ve done a necklace/scarf combo myself, and it looks fun if a little haphazard. I stole the idea from a catalog page and recreated it as closely as I could, right down to the long pearls and vintage-print scarf.
