Just for kicks, I thought I’d share a few fit and sizing tidbits that have been floating around in my head of late!
* * * * *
The fuller the skirt, the shorter the hemline feels. If, like me, you adore pleats in your dresses and skirts, be aware that the shape and design may make a slightly above-the-knee hemline feel quite … er, breezy. Go a bit longer than you might ordinarily.
Generally, shorts will fit better if you try a size up from your normal pant size.
Most retailer websites have a general size chart that only hints at how individual garments will fit. Consult the chart to get within your sizing ballpark and, if you can afford to do so, order your normal size and a size up or down. Keep the one that fits best and send back the other.

Reader Ursula posted this question to Facebook:
Have you written about how to dress for family vacations (Disney specifically) and not look like you are trying too hard (or too little as the case may be)? Struggling with function and body image on this one.
I’ll admit to never having entered a Disney theme park and I don’t have kids myself, but I’ve been to loads of amusement parks for day trips and taken plenty of vacations – with family and alone – that require similar amounts of walking and standing in line. (Think art museums in Florence in June. LINES, people, oh the lines.) So although I can’t speak from direct Epcot-based experiences, I will make my suggestions and ask those of you who have done Disney or similar family trips to lend a hand in the comments!

But before I dig into how shorts and shoes play off one another and affect body proportions, one quick note:
Yes, you can wear shorts. I don’t care how old you are or how much you weigh or what your legs look like. If it’s hot and you want to, you can throw on a pair of shorts and wear them to your heart’s content. Whoever said that certain body types and age groups should avoid shorts is a Clothing Tyrant and should be overthrown in a bloodless coup. If you like shorts and feel comfortable in ‘em, wear ‘em.* Find a style that suits you, and sport them all summer long. The end.
