This Week I Love …

… dusters.

OK, OK, I know that this is yet another fashion term I’m using loosely. From what I can gather, an actual “duster” is an ankle-length canvas coat worn by equestrians to protect their clothing from trail dust. I don’t own any of those. Or any horses. But what I do own – and adore – are long coats and sweaters worn as toppers that create dramatic, long lines. Like these:

Several weeks ago, I had the honor and pleasure of meeting with an amazing group of women who have organized their very own Fashion Club. These gals all live here in the Twin Cities and were drawn together by a desire to look good AND feel good. They’ve come to rely on each other for input and guidance, while each following a distinct stylistic path. I had a fabulous time chatting with them over coffee, and found myself becoming quite envious of their group! How amazing to cultivate a dedicated, organized cluster of friends who can trade tips about colors, thrifting, figure flattery, and all things style? Seriously. Every time a new social media/sharing/photo/networking tool is released, I cringe a bit. Even though many of these websites and platforms are great ways to learn about new trends, connect with like-minded individuals, and expand your business or audience, they are also time-suckers. You’ve gotta learn how to use them, then learn how to use them well, then figure out how many of your current contacts should be folded in, find new ones, and deal with upkeep. EXHAUSTING. read more
