This Week I Love …

… magenta.

Cobalt may be the color of the season, but my heart belongs to magenta. This color is one of the most versatile jewel tones, pairing beautifully with cool brights and warm tones equally well and adding richness to nearly any mix. As I mentioned a few weeks ago, I always end up recommending some basic pieces in magenta when I work with clients, but they can be frustratingly hard to find. I challenge you to track down an affordable magenta cardigan that’s available in a decent size run! It’s well-nigh impossible, people. But here are a few other magenta items that are lurking at the edges of my wish list:

Dolce Vita Laci – $34.65

Magenta looks amazing in suede, and these d’Orsay style flats have rich color and eye-catching detail. They’ll look great with bare legs, and fabulous with printed tights once the weather turns cold. On the pink side of magenta, it’s true, but definitely still part of the family.

DKNY dress – $241

It’s a splurge, all right, but GAH. Just look at the gorgeousness! Sumptuous color, flared skirt, sleeves, on-trend sheer accents in a classic cut … a frock for the ages.

London Fog Plus Size Trench – $130.80

Bright, statement-y coats are trending for fall and winter, and this bold magenta trench hits just the right note. Take a tip from the Nordstrom stylists and tie your belt off to the side for a new twist on a classic look. Available in sizes 1X – 3X. (Also in standard and petite sizes.)

Graduated Bib – $30

V-shaped bib necklaces are incredibly versatile, and this chunky statement piece will perk up solids and play well with patterns. The beads are resin, and the piece has a 16.5″ length with a 1″ extender.

Petite – Elbow-sleeve Boatneck Top – $32.99

Sleek and simple, petites can pair this top with jewel toned skirts, denim, or anything gray. Elbow sleeves make it ideal for transitional weather, but also a good layering piece.

Suedy Lady Dress – $98

Made from wicking sueded Tactel®, this “dress” is pretty darned short and would make for a great tunic on many frames. Love that high-up crossover styling and the fact that it’s machine washable. AND that it comes in standard, petite, tall, and plus sizes.

Fossil Sydney Satchel – $178

If I didn’t already have a gorgeous magenta bag, I’d be lusting after this one. Double handles plus the convenient shoulder strap in a great medium size, and gorgeous leather finish. YUM.

Do you wear magenta? What’s your favorite jewel tone?

Love the suede flats, and I think I need a Suedy Lady dress (in black, sorry!), the cut is so fresh. The Tall is 39″, so it might be a good knee length dress for me. Oh yeah, love the satchel too : >

I love your collage of outfit photos. Your magenta/purple combo is eye-popping!! I love magenta and need more in my wardrobe for sure.

I tend to veer towards the more purplish end of magenta. I just love jewel tones myself, especially in fall/winter. I tend to dress mostly in purples, blues, and greens and love them all.

I’ve found myself purchasing a lot of green tops and dresses recently, though…

First of all….. love the boldness and bright colors, as well as, that jacket over the dress. A jacket can be used in so many way from dressing down or up from casual to a night out on the town! Thanks!

I do have a magenta dress that I totally forgot about until I read this post! Need to pull it out 🙂 My favorite jewel tone is purple, though. I love the Fossil satchel. Adding it to the wishlist!

I don’t know about a descent size run, but mod cloth has a magenta cardi for 34.99 right now.

As a redhead, I can’t pull off magenta (although I’d carry that gorgeous bag). Red hair + blue eyes = an obnoxious overabundance of cobalt in my closet. 🙂 Emerald works well, too.
