I generally remember to throw on a slip or pettipants when I wear tunics with leggings, but on this day I forgot. And didn’t realize I’d forgotten until we’d taken these photos and a couple of days had passed. Hence the wrinkled wad near my right thigh. I bought these leggings to replace my nearly dead black/sparkle ones, but the new ones have a much higher cotton content. They’re comfier, but also about 90 times stickier than the old ones. Well, I sure won’t forget a slip next time I wear them. Or maybe I will. I feel like my brain is becoming more sieve-like with each passing day …

Are you a slip wearer? All year, or only in winter when hosiery comes into play?

I still love the outfit, and wouldn’t have noticed the bunching if you hadn’t mentioned it!

In yesterday’s Lovely Links, you had one to the Who What Wear suggestion about safety pins getting rid of static cling–and it just so happens I tried that a few days ago with a gorgeous silk Theory skirt I bought on consignment and then found to be almost unwearable because of the static cling. IT WORKED LIKE A CHARM. Just saying. . .

slips – yes – it depends. The other day I wore a Calvin K. gray skirt that of course came with a silky lining. I tried it on over my gray & black argyle tights and it was smooth & ready to go – so I skipped the slip. Usually I like a half slip because it helps the garment to hang properly and smoothly and also helps preserve the fabric of the skirt or dress. I have a maxi dress – an old standby Chico’s # in black that i wouldn’t dream of wearing without a slip. It simply ‘presents’ better coming or going. But to each their own!

I have a mini half-slip that I bought… what, a decade ago? I dyed it royal blue, which made it feel less frumpy to me, and I’ve worn it hundreds of times. Go Team Slips! I’m hoping to get pettipants someday soon.

I almost always wear a slip with a skirt or a dress. In the case of sheer fabrics, it eliminates showing what I don’t want to, and for all fabrics, it ensures that they lie smoothly without unwanted bunching or riding up. But pettipants!!! I didn’t even know they were manufactured anymore!! That totally solves the problem with tunics. Even my shortest half slip is a bit too long to wear with a tunic. You better believe that I’m ordering a pair of pettipants today! Thank you!!

I love wearing slips once I’ve found the right one, but it’s super difficult when you refuse to wear ugly slips or poly slips. I’ve collected a lot of silk slips at thrift stores, but finding the ones that are the right length and don’t show under each particular dress or skirt can involve a lot of experimentation. I do a lot of “trial runs” for slips, only to discover that the slip wasn’t quite what I needed. There are some days that I don’t have the patience for slips and just grab something with a reliable lining rather than try out a slip I’m not sure about yet.

I’ve been known to wear men’s silk boxers under skirts. They’re so comfy! Also, single layer silk skirts from thrift stores can make great, interesting slips. I’ve got quite a collection going now. If there’s any chance my slip will show unintentionally, I want it to be a fabulous one!

I am definitely on team slip! They make the fabric flow so much nicer! (and make me feel good)

….It would never even occur to me to wear a slip!

If fabric is clingy, I usually spray some hair spray under it (works like anti-static cling guard) and then just forget about it for the rest of the day. Y’all are inspiring me to look for slips, though!

I’ve never thought of wearing slips. It seems like such an obvious solution now. Could you do a piece about different types, when to wear them and the best places to find one? I’ve started trying to find one online, (I have a dress that just never quite worked but love and think this could be the solution!), and am pretty overwhelmed…
